    Ok, you started it. I'm not a scientist or a psychologist, I just play one on the internet. The quote makes a good point about filtering what you take in. That's part of the problem it today's world. An overload of information has destroyed people's ability to focus and remember things. Couple that with the context switching of short 3-5 second visual/sound bites on Instagram and everything else and you're literally training your brain to only focus for 5 seconds at a time.

    I don't think the statement that your brain is not elastic and that to remember one thing means you have to forget another is true. The human brain can remember a metric shit ton of stuff. You just have to intentionally train it to do so and filter out the BS. The key is recall. This is why reading is one of the most ineffective methods of learning. Even if you read the same thing over and over you're not recalling the information. You need to engage with the material, make flash cards, recall the information over time, etc. Every read is a write in your memory. There are all kinds of tricks to take advantage of this stuff and learn more, faster, and better. Anything you want to learn I highly recommend downloading Anki and using the principal of spaced-repetition. It's crazy the stuff I can recall from years ago using this method.     Sorry for being so serious. I'm very interested in optimizing my learning and just read a book all about this stuff.

    But why bother when you can Google the sum of human knowledge? I have trained my brain to function in “Etchasketch” mode.

    I need all the help I can get on recall. I'm afraid that my ol' tired brain is much like Holms' inelastic attic.

    Reading may be inefficient, but I love to read.
