Omega Speedmaster Hodinkee LE - Arrivals Thread

So in my neverending quest for the perfect strap, I stopped by the OB on 5th Avenue this morning. I wanted something in rubber and knew the 40MM racing models have rubber straps and a lug width of 19mm, but those straps curve toward the lugs, so I wasn’t sure if they would fit. Lo and behold, they do, so I picked them up along with an Omega deployant. The people at the boutique told me I was the first one who had ever asked them whether the racing rubber straps would work with the CK2998 case.

#3x checking in. Pics to follow when it isn't dark and rainy. Got the call Thursday and was able to get to my OB today.

For me it's a good example of in the flesh always being different than photos- I was bit mixed on photos but in person a no brainer for me.

I'm really enjoying the smaller lug width and strap, colors and just "fun" factor.

It was very nice to be able to get an LE direct after missing both Speedy Tuesdays and paying to get them later.

Congrats to you lucky owners! I’m still awaiting mine. For those who received it, could you write a few words on how it presents in person vs photos. Like some of you, I’m a little mixed on how I feel about it.

I tried to capture it in my photos the best I can, but I think it looks great in person. Everyone I’ve shown it to has really liked it, and that includes both watch people and non-watch people.

Has anyone got a speedy racing bracelet. I think the sporty look might be quite nice!

I'm thinking about it, but given the rubber strap and deployant I posted above set me back about $500 including tax, I think I need to slow down a bit and enjoy the watch as it is first! I think you're right that it'll look nice though. I looked up some photos of people pairing the racing bracelet with the FOIS and it seems to be a perfect fit physically, but the consensus seems to be that the bracelet clashes a bit with the vintage look of the FOIS. I think on a watch with a sportier/more playful dial like the Hodinkee LE it might just work.

Anyone else get a 'late' letter from Hodinkee?

They are promising before December is over but I suspect a lot of us are not around. Also, Hodinkee customers have priority over OB.

Not so sure if Hodinkee customers have priority over OB's, do they? Mine arrived at the OB last Tuesday (I did not purchase through Hodinkee).

Thank you for sharing the pics. The watch isn't for me, but I think it's cool.

For what it's worth, I went to the 5th Avenue boutique in NYC two days ago and was told that they hadn't gotten any in yet and mine was the first they had seen. I ordered direct from Hodinkee.

To be honest, as I was waiting for this one to come in I kept debating canceling it. I'd overanalyze the photos of it, and question some of the little details that might bother me. After seeing it in person, I actually like it a lot more than I thought I would. Like you said, it's playful, and has a lot of character, (and is very different than the rest of my watches).

Sure, there are things I would change if I designed it, but overall I'm really happy with the purchase.

You have an amazing collection. It’s prob apples to oranges, but how would you compare it to your ST1/2?

Thx! I still much prefer the ST1 over all of them, but each have their own unique approach that I appreciate at different times/occasions.

I just don't get why they didn't make it a proper tripple date. Painting the seconds counter as the day and night indicator on the original just doesn't make sense.

I get that some people will like the look, but I'd rather just get the original at a fraction of the cost.

Thinking that the team focused on this being a ck2998 iteration, which wouldn’t allow for the triple date. This is inspired by the original, not a re-issue.

I realise they don't even have a tripple date in their line up.

My point is the half blue sub dial serves no purpose, it's meaningless. It's just there to make it look like it still has a function the original tripple date had. And frankly, I find that kind of ridiculous. If you like it, then great.

I don’t think their intention was to make it appear that it has a triple date function, as they’ve pointed out their reasoning in the literature sent with the piece, but obviously I’m not part of Hodinkee or Omega’s design team. I’m looking at it as a ck2998 that was inspired by the triple date his grandfather had and as a way to pay homage to it, they pulled in different aspects. For example, The yellow plane was originally a gmt hand if I’m not mistaken and is now the chronometer. I don’t think they’re trying to make it appear as something that it’s not, IMO, but can understand why some may not be fans. At the very least it’s unique in the speed master line up and a conversation piece.
