Don't do it - who would do a silly thing like that...…. OK l I did!! …… of course buy the bloody watch... shinny things nice …. but go bracelet and then buy a Croc option later. When I buy on leather I end up paying through the nose for a bracelet option later.

Given the collections we see around here on OF, I surely don’t consider myself a collector of Speedy, yet my lineup is quite Speedy-heavy already (to say the least): 2998-4, Tintin, ST1, Moonshine 50th, Apollo 11 50th, Speedy Pro hesalite… and even a X-33 Gen 2, although this one is quite different from the regular Speedy Pro.
So you have a Speedy Tuesday 1 and not a Speedy Tuesday 2 😗

You have a great collection. Is there a situation where you will want to wear this watch over the watches already in your collection? I don't think the sapphire version offers enough differentiation over the hesalite you already have. If it were me and I wanted to add another Speedmaster to that collection I'd be considering one of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic versions. I may be biased since I own the red bezel version.

I know, I know… I even know where to “find” one, from a great member on OF, but I am not sure if it really is talking to me. I am unsure about the Ultraman at 9 o’clock… among other things. 😉

Thank you for the kind words. I feel quite fortunate, indeed.
Overall, you are of course correct, but there is something about the “classic” Speedy that I feel is missing right now.
Fortunately, reading through the answers here, I am somewhat relived to see that I am not the only in the same conundrum. Whew!
As far as the Tokyo Olympic versions are concerned: absolutely stunning, including your “rising sun”, but I would probably not pick them over a classic Speedy.

Hi just looking for some advice. I am seriously thinking of buying a 2021 brand new Speedmaster (legendary moon watch) for my grandson.

he is only 2months old at the moment and in my eyes it would be for his 18th or 21st. Is this a good idea how would the watch store over this time period?

What……. It has a DON, step dial, Ultramen second hand, applied Omega logo and great brown Lume.
And
You only see the face at nine at 2am at a night club ( or in one of those anti-junkie public toilets with the UV light )

It would need a service before winding again - but a nice barn find for him. Kept dry and out of direct sunlight should be fine. Like old cars plenty turn up having had worse storage than that which run / run again. I guess if you know it will not be used a watchmaker might strip it down for you / you could store it dry and in component form - but probably the risk of damaging or losing parts makes this not worth the cost. I imagine stripping it down would make a service cheaper / save some labour time in 2040. I wonder how much things will cost then and what we will be buying things with.

Being asked this question, I would say buy what You like... but know that Omega will bring out a " 50 years ASTP " Speedmaster in 2025 😗

There are SO many speedies that are nicer that the sandwich. Don't do it.
There are so many watches that are 'nicer' than the Speedy. But those of us who are smitten come back to it all the same. I bet a similar thing is going on here, just within the microcosm of the Speedmaster selection.

Buy the FOIS or the CK2998 LE with blue subs as a dress watch. slightly smaller dimension, alpha hands...beauty! You diversify, and add to your "non-speedy" collection although it is a speedmaster.

If you know the movie, you know the quote...it reflects my sentiments in this matter
