Current service turnaround time?

After a recent experience with a local Omega-certified watchmaker, I will only be using an official Omega service center in the future.
Can you share why? Was close to doing this, but ended up sending to the service centre. What happened?

An update in which nothing is updated (re my Rio Seamaster currently out for official service): the AD called to say the watch has been received but there’s no estimate/date as “Omega’s system is currently down and isn’t expected to be fully operational again until after the 22nd.”

Just FYI.

And here we are two weeks later and STILL nothing. This is slow, even for Omega/SWATCH, in my experience. Guess it's not a great time to be sending in for an official service if you can avoid it, folks.

I am my own watchmaker.

USPS tracking eBay and OFrei are the bane of my existance.

The system is broken ...

I've got a watch being picked up next week -- runs slow to very slow in 4/6 positions. I've been quoted 3-6 weeks turnaround, depending on parts etc. I'm in Canada.

I've been calling the Omega line to order some parts for my bracelet for the last three weeks or so and they haven't been able to take orders as their system is down. Every time they say it should be fixed by next week...

I wonder if "our system is down" = we're overwhelmed with orders and are avoiding any more for the moment...

To be clear, in case I wasn't: it's been over a month now (dropped off my watch on March 13), and it's not that I don't have my watch back. (I mean, of course I don't---but I wasn't expecting to.) It's that I don't even have a confirmation of receipt and/or an estimate of what work needs to be done and what parts need to be ordered. My SA was able to confirm that Swatch does indeed have the watch, so I've got that peace of mind. But this is sloooooowwwwww.

By the time I get this thing back, I'll have utterly forgotten it--it'll be like getting a new watch again! (The real trick is going to be avoiding the temptation to buy something else to fit the niche it's vacated for the moment.)

Yes, the system in the US has been down since early April apparently.

Hasn’t affected Canada so everything is fine here...

Another update: finally got the estimate from Omega/Swatch today. I called the AD yesterday to inquire and they called Omega—I’m not sure if that expedited things, or if this estimate would have come in today regardless.

I also assume (but am not positive) that this means their system here in the US is back online. Or they’ve found a workaround.

They are estimating three weeks from now for completion of a basic full overhaul with lite refinishing.

So…

70 days from submission to estimate.
21 days (quoted) for the work.

I suspect it’ll end up being closer to 100 days all-in. If that happens, I’ll be pleasantly surprised as three months is quite a bit better than what I was initially told to expect.

My 2022 3861 Speedmaster chrono function stopped working (thank God I was not in the midst of a space emergency). I was told that, due to a system upgrade, it could take 6-9 months to get it back. When I went back to the OB and quizzed them a bit further it sounds like it could be a few months.

Thanks for the update @Annapolis . I called the parts and service line and they still aren't taking orders there. It's possible they are prioritizing service and repairs though

Just called to follow up, since I'd been told "three weeks" 22 May. Obviously that didn't happen. Now the new expected delivery is "end of July"--with no further explanation. That'll make it 4-and-a-half months. This is a standard-issue Seamaster diver (albeit with a LE caseback, dial and bezel, but I don't think those require replacement at all---just quoted for a routine movement service and some lite refinishing). Ah well.

And since I updated this thread with my own news, I should also mention that (in another thread) someone just pointed out that warranty work is happening much faster right now--on the order of just a few weeks.

My Speedmaster Professional is back from warranty service. From Omega boutique dropoff to pickup it was about five weeks.

That sounds very quick. What location? Am curious what the UK turnaround time is at present if anyone knows? Had one watch done nearly two years back and that took around 5-6 months for a standard service and replacement clasp

The service for my watch was a warranty service, so maybe turnaround is faster for that? Service was in USA, in Seattle, WA.

Thanks, and good point. No idea whether warranty vs normal service makes any difference.

Regards UK turnaround times, I had my Seamaster 300 in for a full service earlier this year. Dropped it in at the UK Service Centre in Southampton in early January and they said it might be up to 4 months, but actually got it back in less than 8 weeks. They told me it was quicker than they expected as they’d now worked through their backlog.

Good to know. Many thanks
