How do you guys display your collection, if you do at all? I’d love to see some pictures of stands, boxes, drawers, however you keep and or show your collection.

I’ve recently gone from high-end custom cabinet maker in Connecticut to stay at home dad in Miami and I’m looking for some side projects to keep me busy in my wood shop. Using this forum to hopefully get some ideas.

Thanks in advance.

You really don't want your watches out in the open unless there cheap ones the valuable ones mite disappear in a burglary when your not at home because the word got out to a thief of what you have. You look new to the hobby with post count a piece of advise don't let a lot of people know what you have.

There are threads around where people posted some stunning collections. Like antique furniture holding the goods. It was quite stunning. I just have a few watch boxes and then single boxes holding most of my stuff. I also like how some people have set ups where they “hang” their watches. Pretty cool displays on that as well. The most recent watch box I got does have a clear top. It was on sale at Amazon for 20 bucks and is made of real pleather. Or it might be some kind of leather. No pics now I’m not at home but at some point I think I’d like to get a higher quality watch box.

Ones I leave lying around regularly get put in a fruit bowl by the watch fairy. 😉

My pocket watches spend 99% of their time in a vault. But when I do display them, I use oak and glass cabinets made by a cabinetmaker friend.

My advice is to keep em under lock and key.

Hi walrus,
I can confirm that the leather in your watchbox is real leather. It is the skin from a number of fauxs. I hope you realise that many fauxs died to make your watchbox. Not to mention the orphaned fauxs left to die of starvation and exposure.

I have a decent glass top watch box with a drawer for extra straps etc... But I keep it in the safe. A box full of watches is not something you leave out, no matter how good your alarm or the neighborhood.

I really wish that wasn't true though. I'd love to be able to keep a nice rifle on the mantle, my gold plated Colt in a glass presentation case on my desk, and the watch case out. Great conversation pieces and all art in their own fashion. Unfortunately, we have come to value criminals and wastrels more than contributing members of polite society, so that option is no longer viable.

Too bad you're so far from me. I've had some ideas for arboreal gecko enclosures....

I do get a little depressed every-time I’m near it so that does makes sense, and here I was thinking it was a harmless box for mediocre watches

If, and how, one displays their watches or other collectibles depends on where you live and how secure your home is. There are many ultra safe neighborhoods with homes with good locks and security. And there are neighborhoods where one has to be very aware of leaving any sort of valuables out when you leave the premises. My neighborhood of 185 homes has been around for about 25 years and there has been ONE burglary that was done by workmen working on the property. When I go away for more than three or four days all watches, and my wife's jewelry, goes into a 10" x 10" safe deposit box at the bank. Just act according to your situation.

And many people have valuables like paintings, sculpture, clocks, etc that can be very valuable and they can't be easily secreted away on or off the premises. Security is always a top priority to protect one's valuables.
