The everlasting question: Speedmaster vs Seamaster

I have both, but if I could only have one, I'd go with the Speedmaster. I wouldn't shower in either watch, but it's OK to get the Speedy wet. Mine gets rinsed off all of the time and the other day it got dunked in a horse's water bucket (it's horse drool resistant, so no problem)

The SMP is beautiful and I think it could be an everyday watch, but the strap options and classic look of the Speedy are hard to beat.

I used to, actually still do have a Seiko Kinetic and it was water resistant to 50 meters. I didn't take it off for about ten years and I showered, slept, and went swimming with it on. Anyways even if I could pass the waterproof test with one of my older Omegas they all have leather straps and would get ruined. I do miss that about the Seiko. I stopped replacing the capacitor because it was pointless; I never wore it enough to keep a charge and it would die.

My vote would go to the Seamaster. My first nice, expensive watch was a Seamaster Professional midsize Bond (still have it and still love it), then I got a vintage Seamaster in Lausanne a few years back. Earlier this year, I treated myself to a Planet Ocean 8500 and am currently eyeballing a Seamaster Aqua Terra midsize in the coming months. Don't get me wrong, I love the Speedmaster, but to me the Seamaster just has a certain ruggedness to it that the Speedmaster doesn't in my opinion. The few times I've had a Speedy on my wrist, it's felt a little more delicate than the Seamaster.

Which, ironically, is probably backwards if you're comparing to a caliber 1861 moon watch....

Seamaster 7 - Speedmaster 3. I will try to even the score. But reality is once you start you cant stop.

how about buying second hand in great condition, as then you can buy both? I have both, use both, shower in both, and love both. Speedy gets slightly more wrist time at the moment, but that'll change.....

buy from @Kringkily on here or one of the other well-known sellers and you'll get great watches at great prices.

I'm still saying Seamaster, just a great variation to select, at least for me. Aside, all the Speedmastets look the same 😀

I am for the buy both scenario😀

agreed - and thats exactly what i just did 😁

However- if it came down to one- for me, the speedy takes the cake.

What's that canvas strap on your SpeedmasteR? That strap looks comfy.

For me I'd get a speedy 321 and a vintage sm300 but if I had to choose one, it'd be a speedy for sure. With the versatility of the watch, buy 10 different type of straps and you've got 10 different gorgeous watches. And besides, in terms of reliability in most situations..there's a reason that the speedy was the watch that was brought up to the moon!
