·The fact that you have devoted time,, effort, and revelation of doubt about your current watch, all would indicate that a change to a "cannot go wrong choice" is an alluring option.

...Polar Explorer II (Polar 16570) for a pre-ceramic No-Date Submariner....
![]()
I like to keep a small collection of timepieces and for now, I like the idea of just one Rolex Sport (to go with my incoming Omega Railmaster LE).
In the ideal world, I would keep the Exp II and just wait until funds permit the ADDITION of a no-date Sub, but that Sub has been calling with some urgency and the Date Sub is NOT an option as I've had it before and I want to the thinner case thickness and so the No Date Sub is the ONLY Diver I am now considering.
The pro's of keeping my 16570:
-relatively rare white dial sport model
-Date function
-ability to wear with a SEL bracelet
-nicely modded with 216570 orange 24 hand
The pro's of the Sub:
-do I really need to list?...but here are a few...
-the black dial has better legibility, especially without the date.
-rotating bezel would get much more use than the GMT function of the Exp 2
-Value increases faster than that of the Exp 2
Downside of replacing the Exp II with the Sub:
-not as unique as the Polar Explorer
-SEL bracelet is NOT an option
-NO DATE
-better chance of getting into a car accident while I'm gazing at the Sub while driving :chuckle:
I don't travel to other time zones very often and when I do, I often take a beater watch (if any).
So what are your thoughts?

Seeing that my 16610 Sub Date is my go-to watch 5x a week for the past 16 years, no, I won't talk you out of flipping. You must flip. If the no-date Sub is something you like, trust me, you'll love it once you own it.
And there is one more thing in play here that you didn't mention: The oversized watch trend is fading and down the road big watches that wear even bigger (like your Explorer II) are going to be out of style and lose their resale values. You're picking the right time to make the move.
Thanks for the thoughts...nice 16610, by the way!...
Keep in mind, my Exp 2 is the classic 40mm 16570. If I were set on keeping 2, I'd add the 14060M, if I stick with just one, it'll be the 16610...I've got some soul searching to do...
Personally I prefer your modded exp to the sub. The sub while a classic is too popular and I'm also not so fond of the silver (or is it white gold?) on the hour plots. But to each their own and there is good reason why they are so popular.
I want sub no date for myself so bad.
So, the answer is SUB.
well, Speedolex is very correct, and I've said that myself before, once you come to the decision to part with something, there's no going back, just maybe some delay. The Explorer II is now in the hands of a very cool guy named Andy in the great state of WY. It took replacing the original red GMT hand to get more reasonable offers, but yes it sold. I'm now expecting my K-series 2-liner no date Sub 14060M, arriving tomorrow....which is not soon enough!
Curious as to why you don't want the date? To me it looks a bit empty without the date. I think I'm just used to seeing my Seamaster Pro with the date so it automatically looks a little funky to me without a date.
The Sub is in and I couldn't be happier. Unpolished K-series from the brother of the original owner...it's perfect!
This is my 4th Sub, but my first No-Date and it's perfect. For me visually, it's more "Sub" without the Date....more tool watch, more classic, especially with the clean 2-line dial....plus, I love how the bezel is slimmer making the watch more lower-profile. I don't mind the hollow end link bracelet and especially the mandatory holes case. Also, the Date Sub is the only variety that only comes in steel....as much as I loved the Explorer II and my very solid Seamaster 2254.50 (which on paper is an overall better value watch), the NoDate Sub just looks right...dimensions, proportions, design it's perfect!
To me, the no-date is like "undiluted" pure Submariner at its best. Borrowing this photo from another poster from TRF:
I'm slowly getting used to not having a date watch. Some of the advantages:
1) not having to worry about whether the date turns exactly at midnight
2) not having to reset the date if I leave the watch off the watchwinder
3) not worrying about whether I set it right it right with am/pm
4) plus I like the clean look of no cyclops.
