·I don't want to derail the OP's thread, but we are in a similar market. I am struggling to find THE watch.
What I would like is a dress watch:
1. No bigger than 37mm, no smaller than 36.
2. Yellow gold, 18ct.
3. On a strap.
4. That is either fairly new or looks fairly new - I don't want patination.
5. Is absolutely classic.
Watches that are close:
Patek Calatrava 5127J. I wish it didn't have a date.
JLC Reverso. I love these, but are they a dress watch?
Patek 5196J. On paper exactly what I want. On the wrist, the flat bezel makes it wear bigger than 37.
Any suggestions chaps please?

·You might also consider an Omega Genève from the 1950’s? My reference 2903 from 1958 in 18k rose gold…

·Dial too champagne coloured?
The Omega was lovely, but purchased from a London-based purveyor of vintage watches in gold whose idea of "fully serviced" and "movement in top condition" translated to "we gave the case a rub up". It ran like a bag of spanners. It was returned.
The 5227 is rose gold, I want yellow. It's also 39mm, which is too big IMHO.
The 5196 was underwhelming on the wrist and the flat bezel gave it a "spready" look. It wore bigger than 37. Also the flat bezel is a scratch magnet.
The VC I contacted the dealer about and got vague BS replies. It's over priced and I can see nowhere that they are giving value.

Only "bad" thing about it? Gold capped. Good thing about it? Gold capped. Won't break the bank and no one can tell but yoou.
There are hundreds of lesser-known brands with execution equal or better than the big names. And with Lemania, for example, thousands of watches were based on their ebauches (over-simplified, a basic watch movement used as the basis for improvements and customizations).
Something for you to consider in your search.

·A lot of the watches I like the look of are sold unfortunately. I noted in the smallprint that they provide a warranty if you pay full price, i.e. they negotiate!
Unfortunately for them, consumer law provides statutory rights regardless of what their T&Cs say.
Furthermore, I may or may not have had dealings with them that may or may not have been described in my first thread.

If I did have dealings with them, I might have concluded that they are a dealer that puts no small amount of work into marketing and making the experience seem special. But unfortunately that is all for nothing when the actual product is not good. The irony might have been that if they had spent £200 on actually servicing the watch like they claimed I would have been massively delighted with it. I would probably have bought others.
