V VizardI don't want to derail the OP's thread, but we are in a similar market. I am struggling to find THE watch.
What I would like is a dress watch:
1. No bigger than 37mm, no smaller than 36.
2. Yellow gold, 18ct.
3. On a strap.
4. That is either fairly new or looks fairly new - I don't want patination.
5. Is absolutely classic.
Watches that are close:
Patek Calatrava 5127J. I wish it didn't have a date.
JLC Reverso. I love these, but are they a dress watch?
Patek 5196J. On paper exactly what I want. On the wrist, the flat bezel makes it wear bigger than 37.
Any suggestions chaps please?
Glashutte original Pano series has to be a contender too, extreme good value as are many JLCs
Looks like we are after the same thing!! Have you seen a couple of the ones I suggested initially?
V VizardYes, but nothing QUITE fits the bill.
V VizardHere are some that didn’t make the grade.
Dial too champagne coloured?
That may depend on when you bought it. How much?
A few hundred for the watch, a few hundred for servicing, and a few hundred for the bracelet. I also have a No 8 Horween shell strap for it, one that matches the age of the watch.
Only "bad" thing about it? Gold capped. Good thing about it? Gold capped. Won't break the bank and no one can tell but yoou.
There are hundreds of lesser-known brands with execution equal or better than the big names. And with Lemania, for example, thousands of watches were based on their ebauches (over-simplified, a basic watch movement used as the basis for improvements and customizations).
Something for you to consider in your search.
Tom, I still love that stainless steel DeVille that you have. I don't care what the rules say. That's one hell of a nice looking dress watch.
Has anyone bought from here before - https://www.vintagegoldwatches.com/. They have (and have had) some nice pieces and certainly help if looking for inspiration.
M MotikNice site, but prices seem to be a bit high.
A lot of the watches I like the look of are sold unfortunately. I noted in the smallprint that they provide a warranty if you pay full price, i.e. they negotiate!
V VizardUnfortunately for them, consumer law provides statutory rights regardless of what their T&Cs say.
Furthermore, I may or may not have had dealings with them that may or may not have been described in my first thread.
I may or may not have re-read your comments and now may or may not understand. If you catch my drift.
