Looks great on you, congratulations! The blue strap is an excellent choice!

Received mine today from Hodinkee. Number 3XX/500 - the numbers seem pretty random. Overall I like it. I like it a lot. But do I like it $6500 much? Probably....it's probably one of the only two Speedmasters I'd actually consider. It's really unique and different from what's out there, which is my main complaint with the line - as much as I want an iconic Speedmaster, the standard design it just feels a little vanilla and lacks personality (though I really like the look of the Apollo 15 limited edition).

A few things surprised me. While the watch looks really busy from afar, when it's on your wrist, especially when the chono isn't running, it doesn't feel as busy for some reason. Also, the yellow tip of the chrono hand, while it threw me off in photos, seems to work better in person. Even the airplane shape, which is really quite unnecessary, makes it feel like the seconds hand is pointing to the bezel. And when the hand is positioned at 12:00, it kind of fades away.

I also originally thought the blue/black 30 second interval timer (i.e. the running seconds) was pretty dumb. But having that propeller rotate with its half blue half black hand is kind of fun and whimsical. It may be one of the best parts of the watch actually.

That's actually how I'd describe this watch....it's whimsical, it's fun, it's different, and its unique. And it's still a Speedmaster! I like that. The question is, do I like it ~$3k more than a <$4k pre-owned FOIS....hmmmm.

Didn’t Hodinkee refund you $500 for it being late? The OB made no such offer. Enjoy the watch! Your word whimsical is perfect!!

They didn't exactly refund people $500 - rather it was a $500 gift card to their store. So I could in theory buy some straps for free, or I can take $500 off a larger purchase, but it isn't cash-in-hand and doesn't quite reduce the purchase price (unless you were already in the market for something they offer on their site). That being said, it's a nice gesture. Maybe the OB can throw a strap your way? What I really wish I could do with that $500 is buy that rubber strap on deployant from the OB - but sadly that's not possible as the gift card is only valid at Hodinkee's store.

Thanks for the clarification, and it’s great to see another one of the 500 emerge. As for the OB making a gesture like you suggest, wish that was the case. I asked vaguely subsequent to the delivery in hope of an offer for exactly what you suggested. The OB has behaved like they were doing a big favor taking the order for this watch from the beginning. Perhaps we will be surprised.

Despite being a fan of Speedmasters and Omegas in general for a long time (and trying on many, many models at my local Omega boutique over the years), I’ve actually never owned one, so this is my first, and I couldn't be happier. I ordered through the Hodinkee website before they sold out and just received mine as part of the first batch that shipped out this week.

First impressions: I really, really, like it. Say what you want about the overabundance of Omega LEs, but I like having watches that are a bit offbeat or that otherwise have something interesting about them, and this certainly meets that criteria. I plan to wear this often.

Pictures and some notes below...

Comes in a nice travel case that's built into the presentation box and can be removed:

The included leather strap is soft and looked very comfortable, but unfortunately it was just too big for my small wrists (not enough holes in the strap), so I took it off almost immediately.

Here it is on the very nice Omega NATO:

Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the general bulk of NATO straps, so then I swapped on the blue davenport strap that Hodinkee sold along with the watch as a $99 add-on. This was perfect and I think looks great:

Again, very very happy with my purchase (I'm also a huge fan of Hodinkee in general, so take that as you will). Happy to answer any questions for anyone interested.

Congrats!!! That Hodinkee strap looks really nice.

Received my H10 last week, 364 days after I started my watch collection: Space, sea, air, and land.

I'm curious how accurate the H10s are for you guys who have received yours...Mine is running about +11.5s/day. Not thrilled with the performance.

Also I'm going skiing later this week for a few days. Any concerns with me bringing this guy along on the slopes? I was thinking this or my Panerai Radiomir 42mm....which may be able to withstand a bit more of a beating.

Mine's about the same, but I haven't timed it exactly. It's usually a minute or so off after a week. The 1861 has never had a reputation as an especially accurate movement, in any case.

Hey we have similar tastes 😀 How do you like the explorer 1? I've been thinking about jumping up to that ref with the 1016s getting so expensive.

Cal. 1861 tolerance for average daily rate is from -1 to +11 seconds.

As for the skiing it probably depends on how well you ski. 😉

Mine should be coming next week! Really mixed on whether to keep this or not. Hopefully it will be easier to decide in person.

I’ve found my BB58 and gmt ii get the most wrist time. I too like the 1016 R serial but those have gone up to crazy prices.

It looks kinda cool but could not see it as a daily wearer little to much going on for my taste. Anyone able to pull it off as a daily?

That’s why I thought! But been wearing it for two weeks straight now on different HODINKEE bracelets (nato, black leather, etc). My hulk submariner has been in the drawer next to a Daytona which I were seldom as it’s less discrete.
