Omega discounts drying up

Omega could easily create huge waitlist for Speedmasters but chose not to.

You've got to have a lot of respect for that.
Although, this business around deliberatly creating artificial demand is not necessarily proven.
There's lots of evidence that it's not orchestrated, but it's largely a convergence of market forces.

I confirmed with my local OB that the have made the margins smaller for ADs, which have taken away their ability to offer substantial discounts. I don't think it's a bad move. For those that want the value of their Omegas to stay...it's a brilliant move. You can't have it both ways...

I got what amounted to a little under 10% off on a new 3861 Speedmaster moon watch with hesalite from an AD in Orange County CA exactly 4 weeks ago. This was the last one they had in the back inventory, and I preferred to get a "fresh" sample from the back instead of the one in the case that everyone handles. I have never purchased anything from this shop before and I don't exactly look like someone who will be making regular high-end watch or jewelry purchases (I'm not - this Speedo was the first "luxury" watch purchase of my life, and more expensive than anything else I've ever bought that couldn't be driven or lived-in). I went in ready to buy and told them I was ready to buy, and asked if they would be willing to offer a military discount (I'm a retired reservist, so I can't start shopping AAFES until I'm 60). We haggled a little and settled on a number I was happy with, which ultimately worked out to about 9.5% off of the "out the door" price when factoring-in the sales tax.
Having done some research before the purchase, I was considering the 1861. The previous 1861 model is almost $1,000 cheaper retail, and includes an additional NATO strap, a strap-changing tool, and an eye-loupe. So Omega increased the price, decreased the "bonus" items in the box, and apparently pressed the ADs to reduce discounts.
Regardless, I'm still confident I made the right decision going with the 3861. Maybe I could have gotten it for a little less if I looked around some more or went up to LA, but there's value to my time too, and I don't have any established customer relationships with any place anyway. I have no regrets and am happily wearing my new moon watch almost every waking moment.

Those of you lucky enough to travel overseas may still be able to get discounts on Omega at airport duty free outlets. These outlets can be good value, particularly in cities like Dubai where there's little or no sales tax. You should be able to get around 10% off retail price without really haggling.

I spoke to my AD and was promised a 10% loyalty discount and the first service for free on a new 3861.

Does anyone here happen to know the current price of a 1861 and 3861 service in £ Pounds?

I too got given a voucher for a service but mine didn't state free service but service up to the value of £450 and I'd have to make up the difference.

I bought a new 1861 from my local AD here in LA about a month ago with a 20% discount. They had a couple of new Speedmasters, so I asked the salesperson if they offered discounts on those and she said “absolutely not” even though I’m a regular customer…I bought 4 Omegas from them the last year and a half.

Anecdotal, but fwiw I just got what amounted to an 18% discount on an SMPc a couple weeks ago from a NY state AD. (This after a local AD refused to do more than eat the sales tax.) Sounds like folks think the wind is shifting, but at least for now it’s worth the hunt.
Can you share the AD?

Placed my order last week for an AT 38, no stock in hand, AD booked the watch to be sent in directly from Switzerland. Effectively 16.4% discount.

The new sapphire speedy which they had in store was offered to me at 5% discount max.

Looks like it's not really about what's available in inventory at the AD but rather the price is controlled by Omega for different models.

Thanks for this great info. I just wanted to make sure I've done my due diligence. I'll make a few more calls to AD's today but it looks like I'm facing about a 5% discount max. I hope this watch is worth it! It will be my first Speedmaster!

Don't wait too long though, there's another rumor going around that MSRP is going to go up (not sure it it's for all models) come 1st Dec.

It's the perfect time to buy the new speedy in my opinion, since it only came out for a year and prices are bound to increase, as compared to other models which appear somewhat expensive brand new because they could be had for so much cheaper a couple of years back.

Let’s hope you’re are right. I’ll feel better! Thanks for the valuable input.

With rumours of price increase circulating (and I have little resaon to doubt them since everything is going up in price), I think its better to purchase now than later especially popular models like the SMP Diver or the Speedmaster.

Even for less popular models like the Globemaster etc, 30% of $6,000 is better than 30% of $6,300 three months later. Just my 0.02.

Update: Just spoke to Topper and was offered a nice discount of 15% on the new speedy and so I purchased from them. They were the first retailer I reached out to (was planning on going grey but there were no great deals to be had on LNIB) and based on everyone's comments, I thought better grab this discount ASAP. The salesperson told me that she can confirm a price increase on certain models but she did NOT think the new Speedmaster was being increased. Of course, she doesn't know for sure. Looking forward to my first real speedy experience!

So rumours of MSRP increases, lowering of discounts, empty shelves etc - there is only one way things are going to go. Which is great if you are selling or own watches but not so much if you are buying!!

I just had a really good buying experience with Topper Jewelers in California. I can say discounts are not a thing of the past (although they might not be what they once were). They are out of state for me and they are shipping the watch to me that I just bought.

My local AD, a Jared, was not helpful.

Toppers is top notch! Rob may get the glory, but every sales associate in that place knows and loves watches! No discounts on GS though!
