Omega discounts drying up

So we both agree you entered the thread on the low road (and have stayed there by suggesting we seek discounts buying pawned stolen goods). Thanks for all you’ve had to offer on the topic.
You began the personal attack by suggesting...seriously...a mental health professional. Seriously.

In any case, carry on your discussion on how to get the very best discount on your watches. Moving on to friendlier pastures...

I haven't found a way to exit this toxicity and hostility from this backwards forum, so please, mercifully cancel this account and remove all my threads. It's not worth it. Sadly, even the Reddit for Omega is friendlier than this.

I enjoy bargaining, and I enjoy even more getting a good deal.
Perhaps it's a cultural thing. What appears shrewd to me, appears uncouth to others.

Agree-haggling may allow me to get 3 watches instead of 2!

- enters a thread with nothing to offer other than “I don’t get you all”
- can’t stand a reasonable argument presented, or light hearted humor
- lashes out, doesn’t get the desired reaction, storms off because “everyone else” is the problem

Anyway.

I’ll try and address the discount aspect from an economics perspective…

My perspective is that during a hot market ADs had no problem requiring jewelry purchases for Rolexes, and greys were fine charging multiples of retail, so why should I be sympathetic? Jewelers are used to the negotiations-they routinely do it on jewelry, including diamonds.

Excellent points. Many ADs offer lightly used models at those same exorbitant prices as the greys. The last 2.5 years have been wild and it’s taking even longer to “settle,” as some of the disruptions have lessened, while new wrinkles appear. Inflation, supply chain, war, disease, politics, (starting to sound like Billy Joel) everything seems to be balancing on a knife edge.

While we all hesitate, dealers may be more likely to discount. Seems silly to focus on watches in light of all those factors, but that’s where we are.

No issue buying through an AD. I have ocd and would pay an extra 1000-1200$ cad to have my name on the warranty cards and in their system.

What I meant before about hesitation was more of a comment on watch buying in general due to the economic situation, not hesitating to buy at an AD vs other options.

As for having your name on the cards, it's actually the seller's name that goes on the cards. Being in the "system" only gets you marketing outreach from that particular AD; no record of the purchaser goes back to Omega to my knowledge. Why would it? The warranty is with the watch, not tied to who owns it. There are obviously other comforts or perks of buying through AD/OB, but the reasons you stated should not be part of your consideration.

Legit greys can carry a valid warranty. As Moon stated, they’re sourced through an AD, with papers including warranty card traveling with the watch. No different than purchasing a watch from a friend who originally bought at the OB. I think Jomashop is the exception, you don’t get the warranty card.

Like others have said, ADs have no problem marking up Rolexes and Pateks above MSRP, so I see nothing wrong with trying to get a discount. And if most are getting discounts and I am not, then I am that much further under market value if I want to resell or trade. Market prices are what they either - MSRP, above MSRP, or discounted. My hope with this thread is to see where the market is at for these great timepieces and make an informed buying decision.

With the amount of shop wear Omega watches get from sitting so long on the shelves of their ADs, you are damn right I will ask for the best discount possible and run for the exits if the jewellery store does not want to compromise. The reason discounts (whether watches or jewellery) exist in the first place is because the seller does not believe he can move his product in a timely fashion at the full sticker price. At the end of the day, the customers will decide how much they are willing to pay for their watches, not Omega and their delusional fantasies that they are on the same pecking order than the likes of Rolex, AP or Patek and that they can bully around their AD to not offer any discount.

Berry's in Nottingham offered me 10% off a brand-new speedmaster today. Goldsmiths (WOS) no discount. The 2 stores are 20m apart. Discounts are still available. Unfortunately, a main dealer with arrogance is never going to get my money.
