I found an RG movement without a case, I suspect it was melted for "scrap" gold - never quite understood the use of the word scrap with gold. "Hey, send us the gold you would normally just toss into the garbage and we will give you a few bucks".....

Anyways, it is in pretty bad shape and I am on a salvage mission. I have a 38mm 18k gold case that will be its new home, and the movement/dial are going through a complete restoration. I can tell you this watch will cost me 2X what I could find an intact one for, and then will not have the proper case - BUT, I feel good about restoring a piece of history. I will post a complete write up on the project with photos once completed!

Here is the hot mess as it stands today.

Completed restoration.... might swap to an even nicer case, and not entirely happy with the salvage on the second hand (they attempted to save the original which was bent, and still has a bit of a bend in it).

Mine movement is still in pieces. Someone knocked the jewels out of the going train and sweep bridges

I just had the balance restaffed, but no hairspring

From Ebay when I bought it. pretty close to 9/10 condition and it arrived with all the parts except the sweep pinion, spring and screw

Hi there. Noob here but have been in the collecting business for a while now. I have a similar 30T2 SC but for whatever reason have no case back for it? Of course the major problem is trying to find a proper case back for it without and reference numbers. Is there some way I can get some more info on this issue? I have now had the dial redone and is being posted back to me.

I think I remember seeing that one on the bay, no case either, right? Yours is in very nice shape to start with! Still not sure why so many RG movements pop up with no case, have to be gold scrapping.

Most likely scrapped in the early 80's when gold reached an all time high. Old watch and case was worth money back then.

Need to find a watchmaker to do the bridges and re-install the jewels. Spoke to two, but a little nutso, so passed on them

Hairspring a little tougher. Might swap one from a later shock balance and make adjustments as needed

The 30t2rg and 30t2sc rg and getting harder and harder to find with original dials. I have taken lately to look for bargains in the less than perfect examples available.

The specimens owned by Mike and Erich put my meager offerings to shame.
here are some illustrations.

2364 yellow gold, original dial

2366, project watch, replacement Omega RG homage dial.

2366 stainless Rose gold bezel, redial

2367, Dial with script poorly refinished

Just snagged a 2366 stainless Rose gold bezel 30T2 RG with same dial configuration. Must redial. Do you know who can do same or better quality work as the pink bezel dial pictured above?

Well, you're never going to do the same or better than the one you referenced for comparison, since it has an original dial. Yours is indeed refinished. Not sure who to work with for a good redial of an RG.

I was referring to this picture which I thought OP mentioned as redial.

Oh - I thought you were talking about the heavily patina'd one. Yes, they are both refinished. Sorry for the confusion.

Really? Are you sure?

I can not recommend him...

Why? What happened?

I can surely recommend him. He made dials for me and I am very satisfied with the result. If I compare his work with the work of Bethge, I will always prefer Causemann.

he uses the correct fonts
subdials are centered
payment after receiving the dial, not before
he does not forfeit parts
if something is not correct, you can talk with him and find a solution.

So, yes, I am satisfied.
