Good afternoon chaps.
As an owner of Omega, Rolex & now Tudor I decided to have a look on the Rolex forum.

I have got to say that the overall negativity towards other Marques is staggering.

Keep up the good work, positivity towards all horology and overall goodwill towards your fellow enthusiasts be they experts or seekers of knowledge.

Thank you all for any answers you have provided.

I always find it staggering that someone can be so tied to a particular brand that they become myopic and derogatory to all others. It's like a fan of the Rolling Stones saying that all other music is rubbish. The kind of behaviour I associate with immature adolescents and I generally ignore it.

I am a fan of nice, well made and beautifully designed watches. The name on the dial is not the overriding concern.

There are loads of good people there and many of them are also members here too. 👍

I like all kinds of music.

Except the Rolling Stones.

I only visit the vintage sub-forum at RF, but I don't find that the members there are at all negative towards other brands. They just don't discuss them much, primarily focusing on Rolex, which is appropriate in that forum.

OF members do seem to have broader interests and expertise. For example, some of the best threads on Longines and UG are found here.

The few times I read threads in the general forum at RF, I quickly lost interest.

Keith Richards lives here in southern Connecticut and I ran into him a few times at a country music bar he frequents on the weekends when there's live music. I can't say I'm pals with him but the few times we chatted he seemed way more down to earth and "normal" than his appearance would suggest 😁

So true, and emblematic of so many other situations in life where one joins the mob without really thinking through what they’re hating on, or fighting about.

Like when you’re a kid, and you just inherit that high school rivalry with the school across town just because it’s always been that way. Then, hopefully, you grow up and realize how artificial and stupid it all was.

This guy perpetually looks like he has one foot in the grave, so how could he not be down to earth?

Has this now become a proxy war for Rolex vs. Omega as brands/watchmakers?
Yes, the arrogance though seems staggering.

I have just exchanged a PO for a BB GMT, the 2009 PO had never been serviced and kept better time than my DJ 16220 ever has. The DJ is currently running @ +18 spd (last serviced in 2016) which I think is poor, but I love the watch.

That is probably the case, however when you start cruising topic to topic & get a lot of negativity it takes its toll & disincentivizes you from spending any longer surfing.

On the flip side, from the moment I joined this forum, I have found members to be helpful, welcoming & embracing of all brands, even when sarcastic & giving short shrift to silly questions (normally relating to, "how much is my dads watch worth)😀

I have been a contributing member of TRF for many years, and yes, the hostility has grown recently. I attribute this to multiple factors including:
- speculators who buy the watches purely as investments
- tik-tok/media freaks who just want to have and show off what everyone else can't get
- recent events causing a retail shortage of new watches
- covid

Yes, I blame covid for nearly everything. It's caused social isolation, anxiety and insecurity for everyone, world-wide, and it manifests itself in many ways.

There is a fair amount of "if it ain't a Rolex it's crap" on there, but I find that the vast majority there are people who like, enjoy and appreciate all fine things, even if they don't have a crown on them. There is a little bit of hate toward Omega, for various reasons that we're all aware of, but generally the brand is well respected.

It’s becoming more about investment on there. The snoopy thread is laughable with a bunch of pump and dumpers guessing how limited it will be and how much it will go up in value.

I used to split my time evenly between the 2. Now, I spend most times on here as can’t be bothered with much of it although I do take an interest in the breitling and longines sections
