Don't mean to play devil's advocate but... there's a plan C:

See I'm one of those guys that likes dress chronographs so I'd be still going for the 9300 De Ville 😉

oh man...... thanks for this..
allows for more of a direct comparison...
Unfortunately, I'm no less torn....
they both look pretty stunning....
the 9300 is of unquestionable beauty as well, but the thickness of the movement might be too much for a quasi-dress watch...

A "Dress" chronograph?

I imagine these days there could well be 😲 I guess one could time one's small talk as one was pfaffing at a cocktail party or a first nighter or perhaps even monitor one's performance during a one nighter. I'm sure you could time all sorts of thing when wearing a stiff collar, only my imagination is not that fertile.

Mind you, I've always thought that "chronograph" and "dress" were an an antithesis, but then I'm a pedant. Just imagine Ash,how a GL would feel nestled between a French cuff and a nice cufflink 😀 Now there's the ultimate in dress watches.

Desmond - you should look for Donut's black dialed Patek chrono with diamond markers.

I would genuinely love to try that out one day (the GL under a french cuff, not timing my performance, as sadly a three subdial chronograph would be a necessity, 30 minutes simply wouldn't be adequate). That said, I actually do own a dress chronograph that you probably would aprove of, specifically a vintage 1958 18K solid gold Omega Cal 320 with silver dial, Ref OT2872, 35mm diameter excluding crown and pushers.

(Picture not of my personal watch but identical Ref and dial to mine, which is still at the watchmaker)

I like this chronograph better in the steel version, than the gold! For some reason, I like the constrast of the stee/ white gold with the blue better than with gold.

That really is a beautiful shot!

Carl

Also, could be a "dress" Seamaster 300M. My mid size with the ceramic dial actually looks quite dressy. The smaller size, and the gorgeous bracelet make it even more so. When I got it, I also got a beautiful ring to go with it, and that seems to dress it up even more:

The only thing that kind of detracts from the dressiness, is the fact that it's a rather thick watch, and of course the helium valve. Still, I have no problem wearing it with a suit or other dress clothes, although I don't have the occasion to wear dressier clothing that much any more.

Cheers,
Carl

wow ... this thread is going in great places...
Carl..great photo... I love the reflection of the cloth and ring on the shiny bezel and dial...
one of the things I love most about my liquid metal...that does walk the dressy / sport line like the submariners never could....

I have to admit though...the AT has become THE must have for me...

Before we go any further with this thread we need to clarify one fact: there is no such thing as a dress dive watch. That's a fallacy started on TZ and perpetuated on WUS. And don't say "but James Bond wore one with a tux" because he was a fictional character that was at that formal event on the job where he might have to swim for his life.

You can wear a dive watch on a bracelet with a shirt and tie or business casual but worn with a suit will cause the people who have the class to know about proper attire will snicker behind your back.

Well. I have to concede that you are correct. To consider any dive watch a dress watch is ridiculous. Smart casual is probably the best term. Especially when you consider the thickness, the movable bezel with numerals and, in many cases, the helium valve.

We tend to be a bit casual here on the West Coast of Canada. Admittedly, I have never even worn a tuxedo, and I can't even remember the last time I wore - or owned - a dress suit. If the truth be know, my Cartier Tank Solo is the one that I really consider my dress watch:

P1010010_01.jpg

It's really thin, at 5.5mm. I always loved the looks of the Cartier Tank, so I finally got myself one a few months ago.

My post and pic of my SMP with ceramic bezel, is steering this thread quite a bit away from the original topic anyway :whipped: . Speaking of which, I went back to the Boutique today and had another session at trying on both the AT and the HV. If only i could afford both.....

Cheers,
Carl

Excellent! Really like the job you did, with the AT on leather 👍 . Looks a lot better than I thought it would. It does give the watch a more elegant touch, I think. Maybe that would be a good compromise: get the AT with the bracelet, and get a black leather strap to change it up a bit.

Cheers,
Carl

Nice choice with the Cartier Carl. 👍 It's a classic.

Just don't let Ashley / dsio catch you wearing it if you two are ever in the same pub. 😗

🤩Now I am afraid to go out! I will be certain to disguise myself, or hide behind a book next time I go to the pub! 📖

Cheers,
Carl

BTW, thanks for the comment about the Tank. You inspired me to do a thread about it:
