need some expert advice on a constellation grand luxe

OMG, that is gorgeous. 😎

Price is going to be based on gold. Scale shows 123 grams, I would figure about 30 grams of that would relate to the movement and crystal which are not gold.

So let’s say 90 grams of gold. Current price is US$61 per gram X 75% (18K) X 90 = $4,100 or so. Add something for rarity, box with some of the paperwork and the value of movement.

Hope this helps,

yes, gold prices are good today. I'm kind of looking more for advice on the watch itself, if there is anything that looks off. like the dial, the writing, how correct it is.

the guy wants a whole lot more than $4100 LOL

thanks

Very nice. Be sure it fits your arm as it's not easy to adjust.....

We figured he wanted much more.

I don't own a gold Constellation (do have a couple of stainless 2852s with 505 movements from 1957) and am no expert, but all appears to be in order from here.

I’m not surprised. But remember that the market for hunks of gold like this is limited. People would rather pay more for steel.

Yea if it’s short then it’s basically a very expensive paperweight unless you throw it on a strap.

I agree. I think it's an interesting watch to look at, but I'm not sure how broad the appeal will be. If it were a more traditional Constellation Deluxe pie-pan with typical lugs, it might actually be more desirable.

I AM CONFUSED? YOU SAY PEOPLE PAY MORE FOR A STEEL WATCH? MAYBE YOU MEAN MORE PEOPLE BUY STEEL WATCHES, FOR A LOT LESS MONEY?

I AGREE, THE MARKET IS VERY LIMITED BECAUSE THESE WATCHES ARE VERY EXPENSIVE.

THE POINT IS THAT IT APPEALS TO ME, AND IM NOT LOOKING TO FLIP IT, I WANT IT FOR MYSELF.

THATS WHY AM ASKING FOR "EXPERT" ADVICE REGARDING THIS SPECIFIC WATCH.

AND IT IS SIZED TO FIT ME PERFECTLY SO THATS NOT AN ISSUE.

I DONT MEAN TO SOUND LIKE A JERK, BUT I REALLY WANT SOME EXPERT ADVICE. I NOTICE HERE PEOPLE WILL POINT OUT A SPEC OF DUST ON A LEATHER STRAP, BUT SO FAR NOBODY HAS SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ONE.

THANKS AGAIN

You can try not shouting at us with ALL CAPS!

Go check out what modern steel watches sell for, especially those made by Rolex (Daytona) and Audemars Piguet (Royal Oak).

A lot of people dislike too much gold or find it garish. Everyone has their own tastes.

It is much easier to sell a gold watch with a leather band than all gold, just due to the cost of the gold. The more expensive the watch, the smaller the market.

Advice on what? Price? Because you already got some opinions on originality. From long time members. And I think they are saying that gold watches are just a bit less desirable then stainless steel watches. But your watch indeed is very special. It's hard to put a price on it because they dont come up that often on the market.

Agreed, be more specific on this “advice” you’re looking for. You’ve received feedback from several experts above.. if they don’t have negative things to say, it’s possible there are no negative things to say (considering you haven’t shared price).
OMG, that is gorgeous. 😎

That watch looks positively yummy!

Very nice.

Perhaps if you share your thoughts on the watch it will prompt further discussion.

I am sorry about the ALL CAPS, I have bad eyesight and its easier for me to see with all caps, I don't like to make typos.

The asking price is $12,880

Again, I am sorry if I sound like a jerk, but "OMG, that is gorgeous. 😎, That watch looks positively yummy! Very nice" is not the kind of advice I am looking for. I have no interest in any steel watch.

I like this specific watch, in gold, with the gold bracelet (which appears to be nice and tight, not all stretched out like most of the armadillos)

All I want is some expert to come and nitpick this watch and tell me if they see anything that would make me not want to buy it, and maybe some advice if the price is way too high.

Thanks again, I should have been more specific in the beginning.

Mike

Perhaps you can do some research on auction sales and then you will understand the market better. It’s not a Rolex day-date.

FWIW, you do sound like a jerk.

Ok, two things:

1. The upper right lug has a nick in it and the nick bears evidence of polishing after its infliction.

2. This watch is not in my personal watch menagerie.

I don’t think that’s a “nick”. Looks like a Swiss gold hallmark to me. Of course, we’d need more
detailed pictures to be sure.

This reference is not meant to have hard angles. Although it may have been subject to some polishing. Again, it’s difficult to see this from compressed pictures on the internet.

TBH, as much I like this watch, I don’t see $13K of value here. Then again, I said the same thing years ago when they sold for half that much.

PS - None of here are “experts”. You want a real expert, you will need to pay for their time.

We are what you are.

Isn't that the truth!

Thank you. This is precisely the type of advice I am looking for. If you know of anyone who is an expert who can help me, i am willing to pay.
