At what point does the member become responsible for acquainting themselves with the rules? I assume most can read and if they’re interested in becoming part of the community, they would have a desire to check out the dos and don’ts of the site. Maybe I’m giving them too much credit since they’re only trying to sell their damn watch.
My point is that I want them to read the rules. We have already made the stickies to make the rules more accessible and noticable. I'm just suggesting an addition to this.

I'm a digital product designer and strive to make things as clear and intuitive. This is just a suggestion for how to do that. See picture:

I think you have forgotten what time we live in, everyone is a snowflake and rules don’t apply to them.
I don't think the snowflakes are trying to circumvent the rules.

In my experience many people just don't read instructions, no matter how clear or bold you make them. This goes double, it seems, on the internet. People just charge in and start posting. It's a sign of the times. But I don't know why, after more than 24 hours and 3 pages of discussion this thread is still up and active. Most forums would have pulled it down within 30 minutes of it being started.

Reading is sooo 20th century 📖

@jeppehh I agree that the limit (or its absence) for buyer could be clearer but based on your suggestion I'd keep the "insufficient privileges" as first sentence, then your 2 last ones. It will force people to also read the guidelines

Even in the 20th century it was best practice in journalism to write the conclusion in the beginning of the story.

It’s not the snowflakes and Biebers of today that invented scanning and skimming.

I've only got another 3 posts to reach the required 2000 post mark and then I can sell my watch! 😕 ..... 😕......😕.... well that's what @oddboy told me 3 years ago....😕

On a serious note; I actually think this 'minimum post sales rule' is great. It encourages deep thought, valid contribution along with repeated, impetuous, rants of 'uninformed old bollocks'.🙄

Me too. Nobody is suggesting changing that.

Especially since I’m at 199 now 😗

The 200 posts to sell makes perfect sense. I could even see justification in it being higher considering people are buying and selling watches in sometimes 10’s of thousand dollar range. I will say when I first joined and I saw the word insufficient privileges, and I was looking to buy not sell, I just figured a mod had to approve your account. Granted I didn’t take time to go and read the rules, i find rules in general annoying, if it just said you need 200 posts it would have been cool. Not a big deal either way it’s not my forum.

I understand the OF is not primarily a sales venue, but when one has an RCAF Omega Monopusher that was issued to them and they are not into watches (why else would I sell it) obtaining 200 posts is a bit to acquire. Thank you for all the feedback.

Cheers

Thanx for the pointer. Just thought I'd rather see it go to someone who would appreciate it more.

I love these threads.

It’s like climate change and severe weather. Moron weeks are coming more and more frequently each year.
Darwinism in action: climate change favours the moronic, & sensible people are becoming rarer.

Fair enough, and I could understand you thinking a watch forum would be a good place to sell. Trouble is, some people who stop in to sell are good people, some are looking to simply rip someone off or run a scam. It’s hard to know who is who, and 200 posts gives us all at least a fighting chance to figure out for ourselves before sending large sums of money... 😀

Clearly there are a number of threads that start in a similar way to the OP's sometimes because they have just inherited a watch or because they have just re discovered the treasure. What interests me about this is while you will no doubt have an interested audience here given that this is a watch forum, I am not convinced tat this would be where you are likely to achieve the biggest price. While I believe tha most on here would offer a fair price for a given watch and would go high for an outstanding example, the fact that many collectors know what a watch would be worth at retail value as well as in a personal transaction means that they are less likely to get carried away. There are many watches that look good, are old and/or rare but that are worth relatively little money and the non watch person may not realise that. Equally people on OF are more likely to spot incorrect or changed parts that would affect a watches value,

Reaching out for help from an expert if you don't know what you have seems like a good idea to me but I do not think that it is safe to assume that this is where you would achieve the best price.

As for the 200 posts rule? It seems perfectly reasonable to as does the imposition of a minimum time as a member, I do think it helps to protect buyers and sellers.

I have a dumb question. Can I purchase a watch on the sale forums with under 200 posts? It was a bit unclear for me. Or perhaps its my bachelors in hard sciences holding back my reading comprehension again.

I see creating a Avatar is taking a bit of time, you need one by 40 post or 6 years remember 😉

Every year comes with a new lot of Morons. This year, I have the feeling that next year's Morons are already here Grrrr28.gif

I think you've provided a perfect explanation for why the rule is in place.

OF is specifically a place for watch collectors to discuss things, not for people who aren't interested in watches to drop in and sell a watch. There are many other places to do that.
