·Totally agree, and I am a big fan of the 200 post rule for the exact reasons you state- I read the history of anyone from whom I have purchased.
But to continue your metaphor, if the same rude asshole walked into the same restaurant and announced “hey- I found this old Omega in my grandfather’s dresser and he worked for NASA back in the 60’s”, how many people here would say “oh, he is so rude, he needs to eat here with us for at least the next month or two” vs “hey, let’s go outside so I can see what’s you have in your bag.”
Cafes are for eating. But there's a social 'norm' and most respectable people first observe what the local 'norm' is, and then attempt to mimic it in some way. (In the US, some bar-style restaurants you seat yourself, many you wait for a server to seat you. You have to pay attention and follow that 'norm'. In the UK, some pub-style restaurants you order at the bar before sitting, others you wait for a server to seat you. Again, it's up to you the visitor to figure out and follow the 'norm').
Watch forums are for discussing watches. There's a social 'norm' here too, and rules. The rules are clearly spelled out in the stickies, and how well someone follows our 'norm' can be seen by reading their first 200 posts.
