Not sure why there's so much snark here.

If the warning message clearly said "You need 200 posts to advertise" with a link to the info thread, I'm sure these threads would stop coming up. Saying "insufficient privileges" is a little vague, especially without immediately redirecting them to more information (or explaining how they can obtain such privileges).

They might just be older people who don't really know how to navigate the site / find the information and find it easier to ask...

Agreed. Suggested this to the admins a couple of days ago:

At the rate I am going, I'll hit 200 posts in under 18 months and I am content to be posting when I have something to add. The only "farming" I've done is to post occasionally in the WRUW Today thread - which seems to be considered legit around here or I would not be doing so.

I have not yet purchased a watch from a regular @ OF, but I would feel very comfortable doing so. I have made a couple of inquiries where I have had interest.

Just this past week I did purchase a watch from someone who listed on Chronocentric and on the Rolex forums where I too have a handful of posts. Upon seeing the advert pop up on WatchRecon, I searched for the seller's user name here and sure enough, the guy has posted, though less often than I have. He does not have privileges yet here either, but he has had a positive reference from a community member who purchased a watch from him and that discovery caused me to be more inclined to make the purchase.

The seller came here on at least two occasions to tap into the collective expertise found here. In one case he asked about a particular Longines watch.

One must be patient.

When my new Gallet MC45M "Snow White" arrives, I will likely start a thread about it and I'll mention the seller at that time.

No worries about posts...the only thing you're farming in the WRUW thread is likes 😉

if only there was bolded posts at the top of both sales forums helpfully listed as please read and rules.

you would think something like that would be fairly obvious right? If it existed you would think at a minimum anyone that could actually put something in a box and ship it would have the intelligence to see and read.

I have a dumb question. Can I purchase a watch on the sale forums with under 200 posts? It was a bit unclear for me. Or perhaps its my bachelors in hard sciences holding back my reading comprehension again.

You may private message a seller to buy a watch. But they don’t have to respond or sell to you as a new user.

Ahh gotcha. Thank you. I've had my account since 2013 -- but only recently have attained the means to begin collecting 😉

If only there was a way of improving this even more with clear directive communication in the right context. 😗

It really doesn’t get much clearer. Don’t you think at least reading the rules should be a barrier to being able to post?

It’s like climate change and severe weather. Moron weeks are coming more and more frequently each year.

I agree that it’s quite obvious. But I think we can see that a lot if people miss it. And some of these might be alright people with good intentions.

So I think the statement “insufficient privileges to post here” could be made more informative and solve the problem.

That is basically it. Not because the sticky is not a good solution but because the in context info could help the few that miss it.

I don’t think he was talking about you wyle, it was directed at the guy with 2 posts wondering why he can’t sell. Your question about buying is one that’s pretty common, under 200 you can PM anyone you want, you just can’t comment or post in the WTS/WTB until 200.

At what point does the member become responsible for acquainting themselves with the rules? I assume most can read and if they’re interested in becoming part of the community, they would have a desire to check out the dos and don’ts of the site. Maybe I’m giving them too much credit since they’re only trying to sell their damn watch.

I think you have forgotten what time we live in, everyone is a snowflake and rules don’t apply to them.
