I take it you’ve seen this article and the video.

If so, then it is for the benefit of other members.

I did! That's what got me excited initially after I bought the watch.

I believe that episode of antiques roadshow aired two years ago in October 2019 and the watch sold for £31,000 pounds in auction.

Very nice, that is in the right serial range for a UM. These really aren't as uncommon as some once thought. We are up to 60+ that have been identified now, meaning there are likely hundreds out there.

See here for a similar recent find, there are several such threads from the past few years. Note these were actually manufactured in mid 1968, despite what the caseback says, your bracelet stamp matches this, second quarter '68:

See p8 for the discussion of the extract that was finally received for that watch, which looks just as genuine and original as yours. So far that one hasn't worked out perfectly, but once you know how to rig errr I mean navigate the extract system (ie send a photo and stress the presence of the red hand) it will be fine.

I am curious about the "VIPs" who were upset at comments aired here (or elsewhere?), and why we should care? 😕

They must be powerful mucky-mucks to cast such a long shadow. Let's dicuss please.

🍿
Amen…WTF?

So what did you get it for in the end?

Hi Darren. After I posted it to instagram I realized that most seriously interested parties were wanting the extract to be comfortable with the purchase. I just received the extract in electronic format today after a 3 week wait. I am really busy right now with work but I will likely post it for sale here and on the Canadian watch collector forum when I have time to take good pictures. At this point I may actually wait until next year to sell it as it will be a new tax year and that is something I also need to consider.

Expert tax advice, for perhaps some country or another.
Move to the UK, no tax on the sale of clocks or watches.

Now what part of the UK???

wise move on obtaining the extract, would have been a much tougher sell without it. As for taxes, in the US we're fortunate not to have those measure in place....yet. The idea is being floated in congress at the moment as part of the $2T infrastructure bill. It started with any transaction above $600 then raised to $10K annually. If that happens, I imagine many people in our hobby will be adversely impacted.

Any ways, beautiful watch, GLWS!

You’re mistaken here, if you’re suggesting the sale of watches isn’t subject to capital gains already.

In the US, collectibles including watches are subject to a rather high capital gains tax of 28% of net.

Perhaps what you’re thinking of are potential changes where sales platforms must report such sales to the IRS. Rules around such reporting may be currently up for discussion, I’m less agile here but have heard some talk of it.

The difference is that it’s *always* been subject to capital gains, but may get more difficult to commit tax fraud by not reporting it 😁

But maybe I just misunderstood your post

Hey guys. Yes the reason would be Capitol gains. In Canada you are taxed on 50% of your profit at your current tax bracket. So it makes sense to wait til January to sell it and defer paying the taxes another 12 moths on the gains 😀.

I trust that you paid the previous owner a fair price when you bought it. It seems that you knew what you were buying. I hope they knew what they were selling.

Many states have an additional capital gains tax as well. 🤦
