I think I found a 1967 ultraman in someone's sock drawer

Hi guys. I live in a small community here in Canada and I was recently able to purchase what appears to be a 1967 ultraman from the original owner. It was his dad's watch and he had it in a drawer for 40 years. It was full of dirt and gunk when I got it. I cleaned up the bracelet and the dirt between the bezel and crystal and gave the crystal a very light polish. I ended up putting it on a strap.

I did some research and everything seems correct to me with regards to the serial range, case back, and bracelet stamp. I also fully believe the gentleman I purchased it from.

I was wondering if you guys think it is worth it to request an extract of the archives as I live in Canada and I think they are electronic. Do they even confirm it came with orange hand anymore? I heard they stopped doing it..

I will probably be posting this for sale here at some point. I just want to make sure it all looks good. It does to me but I am not an expert in this model.

Thanks,

Josh

You will need better dial pictures to get any real help. Zoom on the tip of the chrono hand and dial as well.

This may have to wait until I have a better camera on hand. How is this ?

Did you get any of the socks? I live in Vancouver, so you could save me a trip to Costco.

Looks like there been some damage/ paint loss where the hand has been previously removed which will make buyers wary. Apply for an extract, you will find it difficult to obtain UM price without one.

I don't even know if they put any remarks on the extracts any more when they are sent virtually.. So not sure if that will help but I did apply for one.

There is some paint loss.

You need to get Aurel Bacs to apply for the extract. Or maybe Achim. 😉

I mean what is the point of applying for an extract if you only get what you want when a VIP applies for you. Seems like a rigged system and kind of pointless.

Am I wrong to say that omega has no way to actually tell if it came with an orange hand? Fairly sure they made black and orange in the serial range and there is no information in their archives that says which is which.

Rigged yes, but not pointless if you're going to sell it. I should probably stop there though, since I think that some of the VIPs didn't like it the last time this topic was aired.

You seem to know a lot already about extracts and the watch. What is it that you wanted help with?

Well I learned everything I know about the ultraman and extracts in the last 24 hours.

At this point I am mainly looking for reassurance that my watch is 100% physically correct for an ultraman which I believe it is.

I also had concerns about the legitimacy and usefulness of getting an extract but that has been confirmed and the subject seems to be taboo so we need not discuss it further.

The watch looks fine to me.
Get the exact for it
Omega now ask that you send photos too. I can’t see any reason why you won’t get an archive mentioning the orange hand.
The paint loss on the hand comforts me, it tells me that the watch hasn’t been tarted up.

Thank you Michael. I did request the extract. I believe it will take a few weeks. Have a nice day.

I am curious about the "VIPs" who were upset at comments aired here (or elsewhere?), and why we should care? 😕

They must be powerful mucky-mucks to cast such a long shadow. Let's dicuss please.

If you want to be comforted further. This is what it looked like when I pulled it out of the drawer the other day before I cleaned it up a bit. Note all the gunk between the bezel and crystal and on the bracelet. It took some serious tlc

Agree, all looks good. Really hope you’ve found an original UM. Please update the forum on what comes back from the archives. Good luck!
