Help needed for an Omega Fab Suisse

Hi all OF

In these difficult times with worldwide Corona - I´m looking for a watch from another very difficult time - the time during WWII. I have found this one that I´m considering buying. According to the seller the watch is from 1944/1943.

Can anybody help with a ref, or just some more information about the watch. It has the "Fab Suisse" on the dial.

I saw the advert and considered posting in the thread. Hinting at a military connection is laughable... Other than that, I believe it is ok.

It's a French produced case, so unless you find a period advert stating a ref. no. you won't find one.

The hallmark inside the case back is consistent with a French market watch as is the "Fab Suisse" marking on the dial. There would be no direct Swiss made case reference.

Ok - thanks. But if there is no ref. how can you tell that the watch is from 1943/44. Is that based on the serial number?

Yes, based on the serial number on the movement.

French is one of the languages of the canton Biel/Bienne resides in, where Omega came from. It would not be unusual to see it.

The "Fab. Suisse" would not be unusual? It isn't, but it is only used on French market watches due to French legislation at the time. It has nothing to do with French being one of the official languages of the canton.

It is indeed wonderful to share helpful, researched posts in order to help other people get to grips with what can be a confusing hobby at times - I can recommend it very much 👍

Now, since you offered a different opinion as to why the marking is used on this watch, perhaps you will share where you uncovered this information? I mean that since the established view is that since French regulation is the reason for this marking, you would surely have a reason for stating otherwise?

Or perhaps you can explain why there are no Omega watches with German text on the dial and why they normally use English, since you seem to connect the French text with French being an official language of Bern and English isn't?
