··Ωf Jury memberI have a few vintage Flagships, which, as many collectors know was the top-of-the-line manual-wind watch produced by Longines during the 1950s. They were the hand-wind compliment to the top-of-the-line automatic Conquest. These are classic, elegant, and distinctive watches, and were powered by the cal. 30L movements, which featured oversized balance wheels for accuracy, and were arguably the pinnacle of the calibers developed by Longines during the 'golden era' of 20th century watch manufacturing.
The one that I am offering today is especially nice, in my view, and for two reasons. The first is that it was a French market watch, hence the "Fab. Suisse" notation on the dial. It's a small detail, but I, and more than a few other collectors, happen to like and seek out such dials. The other is that it is in a combination of metals that I believe to have a superb synergy - stainless steel and rose gold. The case is steel, of course, and the dial furniture is gold. The contrast of the two colors are beautiful, and I place extra emphasis on the combination when searching the market and considering purchases.
The watch is in very good to excellent overall condition. It is all original to my knowledge, including the signed crown. The 35mm screw-back case is unpolished, and the Flagship emblem on the back is still visible, and in better condition than the vast majority of the (steel) versions. The eggshell dial shows a very light, evenly spread patina.
Please note that there is a faint radium burn on the dial in the 2:00 zone. You can see it in the photo in which the minute hand is away from that area. It is trivial, in my view, but I would not want anyone to be surprised. Also note that there was only a radium lume in the hour and minute hands. There was none originally on the dial, so nothing is missing.
The cal. 30L movement is working, and in excellent condition. I did have it serviced a few years ago, but as usual, would recommend one for regular wear.
Although it is well broken-in, I will include the rugged Horween strap shown in the photos. The white stuff seen in one of the photos is simply the natural oils of the leather that appear over time, and will disappear with a quick rub. The strap will suit small to medium wrists, but may be a bit short for larger ones.
I ask $900 for this nice watch, and will ship from my home in Portugal using EMS express at my asking price. I can accept PayPal or a bank wire.
Feel free to ask any questions!
