No problem at all. Was just hoping I had a chance. Will be interesting to see how much it goes for if it sells.

It's a good job I have no interest at all in Speedies, it would bankrupt me . . . can someone explain to me just why they are so desirable? Is it something to do with lost youth, or the moon landing, or a sort of heroic association with men of action and military things, or what?

Several examples have been worn in space and on the moon. No other watch can claim that. It doesn't hurt either that it has a robust movement, a nice sized case, and a symmetrical, very legible dial. It is also one of a very small number of watches that has been manufactured pretty much in the same form for over 40 years.

Combine a racing heritage with a space exploration heritage in a classic and incredibly legible layout and you have a winner 😀

Mind you, if someone wants to explain to me why Constellations are so desriable I'd be all ears 🍿

A chronograph is one of the toughest complications to produce. Knowing that is good enough reason.

+1 to that brother!

Perhaps Desmond Guilfoyle might be the person to ask . . . 😉

Probably a po-tay-to / po-tah-to argument, but let's get it on! 😁

Seriously, the Constellation was the top of Omega's line, particularly the Deluxe and Grand Luxe. The Speedmaster is the Corvette to the Deluxe's Porsche and Grand Luxe's Ferrari. They all go fast and perform well, but the 'Vette doesn't have that same je ne sais qua as the others.

Not quite accurate since the speedmaster had the more complicated "engine" compared to the constellations. The speedmasters (at least the cal. 321 and perhaps the very early 861s) have one other advantage - in the long run better investment potential; for me at least that's important.

I like both. I have a pie-pan 561 Connie and a 321 Speedie and enjoy wearing them both. Of course the Speedie cost about 4x the Connie ...

I think a lot of it is desmonds fault. For a new starter in vintage, his blog combines a huge amount of information on why constellations were top of the range way back when, enough reference material to feel you can keep yourself safe, and a helpful and open set of advice on demand. By the time you've got through that you want one even if you didn't care before.... But aside from that, i think they have a classy, if period look and are things of beauty...

I'm with you, brother, but I guess that's why there are so many different flavors of ice cream, we all have different tastes.

The most stark example , I feel, is the different affections for patina.

Imagine how expensive it would be if we were all pursuing the same pieces?

Well in that case we can attribute Speedy craze to Chuck Maddox fault, too.
