Possible also ... but in the recollection of the present owner, two events are tied together the year his client got the watch .. and that is the first expedition to the moon and the first winning of the Tour de France by a belgian champion (Eddy Merckx, after 30 years of no belgian victory).
But you are right .. the whole story may have happened in 1971 ..!

1971 is a possibility since Apollo 15 was the first moon mission to use the Lunar Rover Vehicle (a news worthy story to cover) and Eddy Merckx won the Tour De France race again that year.

The Apollo 15 mission was from July 26 to August 7 in 1971.
And, the Tour de France Race was June 26 to July 18 in 1971.

Great story, and a great reminder that you can have much more fun with a watch if you don't have to baby it. Here's my 145.022-69, a near neighbor in serial numbers (31314xxx). Recently relumed and with enough love bites on the case that I don't mind wearing it out and about.
