Ah, now I recognize it, thank you. And, alas, I do have several nice Connies, but only a full set for my 168.004.

Didn’t quite know where to share this, but I figure this is a good place.

As I’m sure many of you are aware, the first gen Constellations ref 2648 are larger than all their 50s siblings. 1mm doesn’t sound like much, but since the dial itself is 2mm wider, resulting in a slimmer bezel, their whole appearance changes slightly. It’s less chunky and, to my eyes, more elegant.

With a 2648 and a 2852 in identical configurations here, I thought a comparison picture might be helpful to show the effect of those small differences:

(2852 on the left, 2648 on the right)

I think the watches and discussion topic would justify a thread of their own!
A couple of very lovely Constellations.

I happen to like them both but the later, larger bezel, reference looks more' robust', with both chunkier bezel and lugs.

It is interesting that Omega went in this direction until they tried out the (very slightly) larger .004/.010 some 10 years later - once again with a slimmer bezel to show more dial 'real estate'. (but this time also with reduced rectilinear lugs)

Maybe you’re right. @dsio what do you think, do you want to move this to a new thread? Apologies for the inconvenience!

I think this discussion is entirely appropriate for a "show and tell" thread 👍

Hi all,

I have recently returned from a trip to Japan where I purchased this constellation from a shop called Samurai Joy, a shop I had seen on various videos online and heard good things about.

I wanted to ask if anybody could provide or enlighten me on the reference number and any other info that some of you may have!
I have seen other similar models but none that had the crosshair and date! I went to the omega store in Kyoto that was able to help a bit with some catalogue

On a more technical note I would also like some advice on how to turn back the hours to UK time and NOT Japan which it is set too now! If I cant wind backwards and need to wind forwards wouldn't that change the date? Or am I missing something? This might be a stupid question but before I even try I would like some suggestions as I am a new vintage watch owner!

Thanks in advance!
W

thanks for your help! Do you happen to know why some have crosshairs and others dont? Is their a difference or were they just seperate models.

You’re welcome.
Omega did numerous dial variations but the reference stays the same.
Some with a pie pan dial.
Some with onyx inserts in the indices.
Some with lume.
Yours has a cross hair.

Here’s my SS 168.005 dome dial cross hair with onyx inserts shown previously in the earlier pages of this thread)

Lovely sharp lugs and a good clean dial.

Can we get some more information please @maxbliss888 ?

Presumably it’s a Japanese watch?
Do you have any internal images? - movt shot/serial, inner case back.
The reason I ask is the very unusual chamfered bezel shape.
Many Omega oddities come out of the Far East, so it would be good to know the case maker and approximate age to record for future reference.

Let me get the watch opened for photography. Cheers

My Connie reference 14381. Patinated dials are not always favored but I promise this one looks much better in person than in photos lol

A very rare 1954 Constellation reference 2887 with a textured dial and rose gold hands and markers on an Omega 1035 flat link bracelet.
