Now if you could only print a tool that could do something with this crown (makes a decagonal or clover leaf crown look like a walk in the park....)

Hey Peemacgee,

Do you happen to know if that's a 42050 crown for 168.(5)004? If so, do you know the dimensions of it?

From what I can see it was replaced down the line by 42055 and then SX42522 but I think they have slightly different profiles, so I'm trying to find a 42050, however some crowns listed as a 42050 have different dimensions from the sellers!

Hello @smb88
The watch in the picture is actually a 168.010 with an original small 'hidden' crown but the crown should be the same for a 168.004.

However, the original hidden crowns are no longer available and the code for the original crown is a bit elusive.
There are two replacement crowns for this reference, one flat topped and one dome shaped.

see this OF thread for info I posted there:

I much prefer the flat topped version to the domed option and the flat topped version, whilst not correct, isn't a bad option.

hope this helps

Thanks @Peemacgee !

Now, that is very interesting - in your link the following dimensions are shown:

Crown CodeDepth
420502.7mm
425222.7mm

But how can the original hidden crown 42050 be 2.7mm, if the replacement at the same depth, is no longer hidden?

That's because I believe that the codes above are both for the replacement crowns.
The original crown is more like 1.7mm 'deep', as opposed to 2.7mm

You mentioned 168.5004.
If that is what you have the English cased watches are often pictured with larger crowns.
However, I don鈥檛 know if that is what they were originally supplied with.

Yes indeed there seems to be quite a mix of styles out there! I have read through that great pdf previously, there's a nice catalogue shot of a 168.5004 with a hidden crown

I can't be sure but it very much looks like crown 4201 from this thread (4mmx1.9mm)

This seems to be the modern equivalent of 4201

Only in steel, but the measurements are the same. I wonder if it would be worth trying to get hold of one and seeing if it fitted, and then getting it plated if so.

Would be keen to hear if anyone else has tried this crown? Or indeed if you or anyone else has any thoughts on this approach @Peemacgee?
