·I really don't understand how people can admire dials like this.
Case 1: Look at it as art, ignoring history. Conclusion: it's completely wrecked, with bubbles, rotting lume, etc.
Case 2: Look at it as a well-used tool. Conclusion: this particular one looks like an abused tool, not a well-used one. I've seen hundreds of old dive watches that have fabulous patina and character. This isn't one of them.
And even if you think it looks badass because of its history, recall that it's someone else's history, not yours. The original owner of this watch could look at it and say "This reminds me of when I speared that ling cod while diving the Farallons." You can't.

·I have decided on returning the watch.
I really, really like it, but the dilemma of restoring it/keeping it worn is getting a bit on my nerves and having a substantial amount of money tied up in something that needs to be serviced (or should it be a restoration? Choices, choices...) is not my cup of tea 😵💫
A few people have reached out re. buying it, so it is possible that it will stay on OF - feel free to contact me if you are interested, too.
I will have another at some point. It is an amazing watch 🥰

I once attended a military vehicles show.
Some WW2 Willys Jeeps had been treated to a full overhaul.......
Perfect in all senses. As close to shiny as those get.
I could not care less when a beat up and muddy specimen came puttering along.
It just looked right, like that PloProf.
Not my kind of watch, but definitely my kind of looks.
