Seller on eBay accepted my offer, I can buy this 6105 for about $1K with an eBay app coupon. No movement shot (serviced last year by prior owner but no receipt), the case doesn't look too bad, authentic crown and there doesn't seem to be black death/mildew buildup? Is this worth it or should I hold out for a better example? Will I be able to clean up the dial (I've heard the chrome plating on the markers are thin and once corroded there's no going back). Thanks for the help guys.
I'd say that's been relumed and if it was mine I'd want it redone. On that basis I wouldn't be jumping on this one. Maybe talk to whoever you'd go to for reluming and see what condition they prefer to see things in regarding the chrome markers. Is Jack at IWW still considered the go to man for these? I hadn't been tracking prices but see they have shot up dramatically since I was heavily into these eight or nine years ago. Maybe prices will increase even further soon with a reissue on the way. How do you see this one fitting into current availability/prices? I believe you've been hunting for a while.
Dial looks original, and relumed. I'd hold off for a better one. Uncle Seiko sells these occasionally.
If the seller accepted your offer as per the "best offer" option, you've entered a binding agreement to purchase it. Don't be that guy who doesn't do his homework until after the deal has been struck and then changes his mind...
It's not a bad example. 6105's are very collectible, and you can't go too wrong. I had one I paid $500 for a couple years ago, and sold for $800 a year and a half later. Personally, I've become too much of a snob though, and want something in amazing, original condition.
