Spectacular! Good puzzle, good answer!

 

I was thinking Eupheganaia Doubtfire for a rebus. But couldn’t do that to you! Now that I think of it, I wouldn’t do it to myself!

 

Work on it! You are all gonna HATE me once the answer surfaces, For those who are still awake, that is sort of an oblique clue!

 

Okay, okay! Another clue. This clue is NOT the guy who is the subject of the rebus. But the two guys share something that is the clue you need.

 

I think I got the answer?

 

HUZZAH, @JimInOz got it. The clue that caused you all the most trouble was the kids in the cardboard boats in the swimming pool being “buoyed” up by flotation devices of some sort. The final clue was an image of thug Edwin Alonzo BOYD which probably was the trigger. William Boyd, aka Hopalong Cassidy!
