Omega discounts drying up

I just received an e-mail from Toppers saying they're now an Omega Boutique. My guess is their prices will now be a bit less competitive.

What does that mean, Topper only going to sell Omega now?

Almost certainly. They'll get priority access to LE stuff and precious metals watches but I'm sure Omega told them they have a very hard price floor for most models.

Still, they don't charge me sales tax so that's technically 8.25% off no matter what.

I'd hazard that anything over 10% now is probably not going to happy unless it's a discontinued model they're trying to move or maybe a "common" model.

Not, they'll just get priority on anything Omega sells, more LE stuff, more precious metal stuff, etc.

Also, I'm SURE they have a very hard price floor on anything Omega sells now.

How does that work, exactly? Do they just discount the 8.25%, or do they straight up sell it without an invoice?

Not exactly sure to be honest

If you're out of state they don't charge it. If in CA, they may discount that amount. Have heard of other OB's doing that (mine won't).

No, Topper is moving to a new location and they are splitting into two stores - One storefront will be the brands that they are authorized dealers for. The other storefront will be an Omega boutique run by the Topper staff.

Firms are supposed to now collect sales tax based on where the telephone or online sale is being sent. Example: a dealer in CA who sells to a buyer in TX is supposed to collect the applicable sales tax for the TX address and remit that tax to TX. (US Supreme Court decision in 2018; South Dakota vs Wayfair). Some companies don't comply or are dragging their feet as long as possible, but eventually most will have to comply as states aren't going to allow sales taxes to go unpaid, they need the money!

Quoted a 20% discount on Apollo 8 ceramic… Need to sell my Gray Side ceramic before I pick it up (just setting limits for myself).

Perhaps this thread title needs to be changed

The 20% off was at an AD? If so, that is awesome, especially On that watch. Best I have been able to get recently is 5% off

Yes the Apollo 8 discount was an AD. I’ve only bought 4 watches over 9 years but have kept in touch. Originally met the owner through work, and it is a smaller shop, but I’m nowhere near a top customer.

I was going to trade in my GSotM but their offer was a bit low, and they confirmed they’d offer the 20 off regardless of the trade-in. We’ve been in touch mostly this year around my request for a milestone watch, which finally came through amid talks of the Apollo (I believe this was related and someone passed on this piece):

Great looking watch and it sounds like you found a great store to work with.

I purchased a new Hesalite speedy from my local AD in the UK last week and received a 9% discount which I was quite pleased with. They also threw in an OEM NATO strap (which I was going to buy anyway) so it was more like an 11% discount altogether.

Have a 12% discount via work at a specific AD here in the UK, debating with myself on using it towards a 3861 come Xmas, reduces the cost of a sapphire to a hesalite...

I prefer vintage and own only one modern Omega, but I think that less discounting is a good thing for both the brand's reputation and resale value. The problem with heavy discounting is that customers get accustomed to it and then refuse to pay a price that is closer to retail for the product.

Wanted to chime in, just recently purchased my SMP300 grey/chrome dial for about 20% off MSRP duty free with an AD.

I wonder if there's some trickle-down finally into the used market. I sold my seldom worn AT 41mm recently for only slightly under than what I paid new from the AD a few months previously. Outside of an LE I didn't quite bond with, that may be a first for me with modern Omegas, although I don't often sell watches on. So perhaps an Omega purchase may no longer be an immediate 40% haircut as it once was (if some pundits and posters are to be believed).

But good to see that folks are still finding the odd discount on new models.
