Whenever I see a " custom case clamp" I think about a fake case.

Bingo, It was the "case clamp & screw"

Interesting. Watchmakers will make do with whatever they have one hand if they don't have the right clamp - I'm guessing any watchmaker who works on vintage has done this at one time or another, myself included.

I see custom made case clamps on genuine watches all the time, so I wouldn't call this anything definitive by any stretch...

I would prefer an original clamp & screw even if it takes more time/money, but its just me.

Understandable. Associating this with a fake case...not so much.

How should an original clamp look like? I have seen a bunch of pics online and I would say 50% have something similar to the number 4 pic. Would it be something like this:

Noted. However if a correct case clamp is not available, then what do you do? Not talking about an Omega here, but the times I've done it has been on a defunct brand that no longer exists, so "original" parts are not available.

Do you send back the watch without the movement being properly secured? In the end, the case clamp is nothing but a piece of metal with a hole drilled in it. That's why assortments like this have been available for many decades...

I totally agree, but as long as the customer knows about it and ultimately makes that decision.

Of course...that is (or should be) a given.

The case clamp slots inside fake 14900 from China are too shallow and at wrong height and won't accept an original one.
Maybe that is the reason a custom case clamp was made to fit in.

I tried to find a way to match a case clamp to a caliber. Is there somewhere a list in the same way that I have it for glass and crowns? I would like to know the original case clamp for a 611 to fit in a 136.011. Any ideas?

The bezel?

Yes, I was referencing the bezel. It looks like it’s missing to me.

I’d be interested in hearing a definitive assessment from some of our experts so we can see what we got correct and where we missed the mark.
