Extremely impressive my friend. My facial hair is so poorly groomed that I would be embarrassed to post it below yours.

I will take that Rodney King comment as a compliment, and I apologize to the facial-hair challenged. 😀
Ha ha! Nicely played!

I can't tell if it's 2:10 or 10 to 2....one of the sides should be shorter.

Also....Lume shots please!!!!

My watchmaker tells me as long as I keep the tips bent in, there should be no obstruction with the plexiglass.

My, my Daniel; I just don't know what to think. The Rodney King of the forum reveals he has a bias against those who sprout only anemic facial hair? Do you do testosterone research? Had a chastising father with low androgens? Okay, I'm throwing down...whatcha got, boy?

alas I can’t grow facial hair. This was movember about 7 years ago and a full 2 months of growth. I used to say I’ll be able to grow it as I get older, then I was 28 and still not able to. Now in the 40’s and resigned to never have a beard. On the other hand I need to rock a 5 o clock shadow to not look like I’m 12. So I only shave about every 4 days lol.

Disagree! Looking good, a step away from Guy Fawkes.

::stirthepot::

Looks like you got a pretty good rug popping out of that t-shirt collar 😉

Full beard myself, salt and pepper.

I can grow stubble on the 15 minute drive from home to work in the morning. So just gave up years ago.

Bought this Corvette and my first Daytona (still have both) at age 27. I found this thread unpleasant and often annoying. A few pedantic pups.

When I was stationed in Egypt and Qatar some years ago, I had a young troop who did paperwork for me. He loved Willy Wonka. He was also an obnoxious know it all who spent all his free time alone. I had him transferred to corrosion control.
Congratulations

Nice car. I have a close family member that has a beautiful white ‘64. He has had it forever and I grew up begging him to pick me up from school in that car.

Just so you know my original comment about Corvettes was tongue in cheek. I didn’t mean for this thread to get out of control because I had some legitimate questions that I thought would be fun to discuss, but apparently not (apart from a few genuine members who gave their honest insight). I was a little miff’d that someone suggested I was suffering from Dunning-Kruger syndrome because that really doesn’t apply in this situation, but a las, ‘internet warriors gonna warrior.’

Cheers,

I predict prices to go down and up and maybe hold some price levels. Wear what you like and buy what you can afford.

To an extent, I definitely agree with you. However I do think there are opportune times to buy certain pieces. I sure wish I would have bought a Sub 10 years ago!

I think you are making the mistake to think it's possible to time the market. It's easy to look backwards and think I should have bought this and that, but it could have gone the other way. Enjoy the pieces you are fortunate to own and if you are scared the prices of a grail of yours goes to high. Either you can afford them now, and then why not buy them for the peace of mind or you can't and then it shouldn't matter.

I don’t think I fully understand your last sentence. Maybe I’m interpreting you wrong, but what I got was that I should buy a grail right now (if I can afford it), but if I can’t, I shouldn’t worry about future prices? If one can’t afford a grail watch right now, they shouldn’t care about the possibilities of what can happen in the future? Maybe I’m being a contrarian, but if that’s true, what’s the point of ever aspiring to own something more than a Timex (that is more accurate anyways)?

Edit: I would like to clarify that I don’t mean to contradict what everyone is suggesting. I’m just playing devil’s advocate here. I could be wrong, but I think we forget all of these watches are realistically, useless. There is no logical, objective way we can justify owning a watch (e.g., a Speedmaster) that uses obsolete technology to tell the time, when I can go buy a Bulova Lunar Pilot with a high-tech movement that keeps within +/- 10s / year. The only way to justify owning a Speedmaster vs. a Lunar Pilot, for example, is to inject our emotional ties to the Speedmaster into the argument.

That being said, in terms of Rolex, there are definite objective, logical reasons to buy at a certain time only then to sell when they’re high (obviously, similar to the real financial markets). Let me know your thoughts! I genuinely appreciate thoughtful discussions that don’t devolve into ad hominem attacks.

Not my discussion but as I interpret it I tend to agree with @KingCrouchy ] . It's a pragmatic and healthy approach.

If you cannot afford it, why stress about it? You can still long for it, like it, want it or aspire to have it one day....but you cannot afford it so relax. The fact that it will (or may) be more expensive in the future is irrelevant mainly for two reasons:

1- You cannot afford it now, so it makes no difference at this moment as you still won't be ablate afford it regardless of future value.
2- Even if it increases in value you may be (cross fingers) able to afford it in the future even at the increased price.

Another way to see it: Affordability is a relative term that takes into consideration both the price of the object....and the wealth of the buyer (or his/hers priorities). Either factor can change at any time.

Nobody on this thread thinks that luminova Speedmasters from the early 2000s will rise in price in the foreseeable future. From the perspective of various experienced collectors that seems like a nonsensical idea. There are huge numbers of them on the market and nothing particularly special about them. I understand that the OP is anxious about this, but I don’t know what else we can say.

And @KingCrouchy was absolutely correct, it’s illogical to cherry pick some 1970s Rolex sport models as an example of watches that should have been purchased 20 years ago. Apples and oranges.
