I know: Omega and Rolex go head to head. But Omega:

Sorry, the second part of my comment was directed at the people nay saying on the emojis and date wheel and in general. I didn’t want to double post. The first part was in response to your comment and we are in agreement. I don’t like that they basically ripped off the design and don’t appear to be donating or collaborating for the cause.

No need to be sorry my friend and all is good.
Your right in what you say and Rolex know full well what they are doing if indeed they present that watch to market. There are many spectrums to Autism and I would not like to think that Rolex would position this watch to high functioning individuals without any pay back to the community. We shall wait and see,

Kindest regards

#unpopular opinion, I know, but this is probably the only modern Rolex I’d consider wearing. Just because it’s not serious. Except for the price tag, of course. And availability, presumably.
But this is coming from a company that doesn’t know the first thing about fun nor have any sense of humor.
These were fun

They were also $50

The real reason behind this product and the real utility is this: you never have to set the day or date, hell, you don't even have to wind it up.

This is targeted at a very specific kind of people with f*** you money who only want to flash some cash.

You can do it with a Sub, but it's not flashy enough.

Anyway, I really don't like it but, whatever floats your boat 😗😗😗

Wait wait wait wait wait.....wait.
This thing is not actually real....is it?
I've seen pictures floating around, but I just assumed it was Photoshopped together
I thought the same as you as I saw it on Reddit prior to it being posted here and I thought someone was having fun photoshopping. I guess it will have its audience, the balloon one as well is very odd.
I usually like weird unique things but this is just a bit overboard. I really have yet to see many “I want this” posts but sometimes I’m missing “the art” so it’s possible it’s the best dial ever made and I’m just not getting it.

Sidebar:

Keith was an acquaintance of mine (not really a friend per se but a friend of a friend and we hung together quite a bit as he frequented a jazz club I played at often)... anyway, two things:

1. I was hanging with him and another guy at his studio around the time he designed these -- he gave me one when the prototypes were delivered to him. And sadly I lost it on some various move/relocation.
2. I distinctly recall him saying, "I'm getting a really grand payday from Swatch for these," when he handed me mine.

Very nice guy and gone way too soon.

“every penny of sales will go to Autism research”. I’m told. I’m pretty sure this is a factual statement. If Rolex does make this dial, it will be between Jesus-riding-a-unicorn and fuk-your-rainbow-Daytona rare. Expect 50-100 pieces. At $100k each, that’s spare change for the Crown.

John Mayer will make his third Talking Watches with just one watch…surprise…

And, you don’t wear this to tell time. You wear it to get laid. Also a factual statement from Rolex.

I’m not hating. WANT!!

In all fairness (I’m not such an Omega fanboy that I can’t admit it), Rolex is kind of damned if they do, damned if they don’t. They’re historically liable to the charge of being so conservative and incremental in their design changes as to be boring. (Ooh… another green dial—wow.) But then if they do something really out there, like a left-hand GMT, all the haters come out to hate.

That said, I don’t know that I want or expect Rolex to be “fun.” And if I do, I expect them to be tasteful about it. These new funky watches just look cheap and tacky to me.

But you know what they say about opinions…

I hope this is true. I don't see anybody talking about it. I would think that kind of collaboration for charity would be paraded about front and center.

I hope it is true too but I can find absolutely no Source online to verify that, and I cannot imagine why Rolex wouldn't make a bigger deal out of it if it were true

If this is their idea of fun then I’ll stick to a colonoscopy and root canal simultaneously.

And I did not get it 🙁🙁 I still have my similar Heuer one though It ever I get the courage to attempt replacing the hairspring.

I suspect that Rollex simply wants to show that No nursery school can beat them when it comes to outsider art. Or else they are aiming for the preschool market. I had a take apart clock when I was a kid. Lost the clock but saved the box. Years later I found a similar clock.

I keep it with my tribble.
So that thing on Donald Trump’s head is really not a toupee……..it’s a Tibble!

I think some confuse hating with taking the piss out. For many of us who do own Rolexes and love what the brand once was, it’s become a sport to lambast them for every ill conceived design or move they make. They have created such snobbery around their brand they invite the hate- it actually creates buzz either way so keeps them vital.
I find making fun of Rolex on par with making fun of Mitch McConnel- he’s such a wooden, humorless, souless atomaton that we either want to tickle him until he laughs- or kick him until he cries.

I absolutely love this watch. I would buy it if I had the chance. I think it’s really interesting

I do have a slightly different perspective - as a retired gemstone supplier, sometimes to the watch industry - I know just how hard it is to find these stones.

The graduated coloured stone bezels are incredible. Note how many of the stones are almost the same as the one next to it, but overall the colour changes around the bezel.

We used to select the rough from huge parcels, then cut the tapered baguettes (more like trapezes). Note how all the tables are exactly the same size, height and dimensions. Much harder than most think at first. Once we cut 100 stones, a;ready pre selected for quality, perhaps 10 would pass QC.

I kept telling them to uses synthetics (as the stones have to be 100% clean, which makes it extremely hard to ID as natural….)

back to the OP watch - I want it. No question.

But then I wanted the Rolex Rainbow (offered new to me in HK at Rolex) but couldn’t justify that amount on a watch at the time - and not sure I could today.

I have to agree with your sentiments here. Given how conservative Rolex has been in the past with regards to their watch designs and range in their catalogue, it's not surprising that people get cynical when they try to pull off a stunt like this. When Rolex brought out the OPs with the brightly coloured dials, it was different. Most people thought it was fun yet tasteful, hence the praise and the demand. It was clever and in keeping with their usual brand image of luxury and exclusivity. These new watches with the childish dials just look like a mess. If people want something funky, just get a Swatch and save the change for something nice and upmarket, yet attainable, like a Seamaster AT.
