How does the forum feel about the FOIS?

I can't help but wonder how much nicer the FOIS would look with tritium lume plots and hands that would patinate over time. That’s one of the reasons that I own vintage Speedy Pros.

Vintage Pros are a different story, I still want one 😁

I had one for a few weeks but sold it on in favour of a 3861 Pro. It felt too small but sat disproportionately tall on my wrist. I also thought the hands were surprisingly difficult to read. I understand the appeal of them but I’m much happier with the speedy pro I have now 👍

THE MOVEMENT THAT
TRANSCENDS TIME

At the heart of this chronograph is OMEGA's calibre 1861, the famous manual-winding
movement that was worn on the moon. Why improve on perfection? It worked beautifully in
space, it works perfectly on Earth.
Exactly. It's tried and tested.

aplenty people say the metal hands don’t bother them, but I’m increasingly convinced they’re an abomination on a speedy

I guess that's why after the CK2998 Omega went with white stick hands. However, the silver hands are a part of Speedmaster history and have a certain vintage charm which appeals to some. Makes the Speedy look a bit more elegant/dressy and less "tooly" IMHO. Horses for courses.

Certainly, all-around agree.

And a “dressy” Speedmaster is certainly a product worth many having. My Tokyo 2020 Panda (silver hands over pearlescent white dial) is lovely.

There’s just no denying that a white-on-black speedy can be read from across the room, while my Tokyo can allude me at arm’s length.

NASA specified black/white contrast as a qualification for good reason, is all I’m sayin’

Horses for courses is right. FWIW, I very seldom find myself struggling to read the time on my FOIS. On the rare occasions I'm actually using it (as opposed to wearing it) on the wards I just use the chrono hand as my running seconds. But the actual house/minutes? Never.

I strongly prefer the case shape, black-black dial, and vintage charm over the previous-gen Speedy Pro, but I can well imagine it going the other way for someone else. The new models are beautifully-made and have some fine features, but I just didn't find them as interesting overall, especially when the price premium was taken into account.

All watches are compromises. But the FOIS has, for me, been one of the best balancing acts overall in a modern watch. I think there are plenty of reasons to prefer something else, but I also think it will have a strong following for the foreseeable future. It's a great, fun twist on an icon that was reasonably affordable and available.

This might help, although is not in a FOIS case.

I have a 105.003 project watch that I bought from eBay that had a corroded case. I was able to get my hands on the Ed White re-issue case early this year and made the transplant.

Currently on the 60th trilogy bracelet, and on the lookout for the new EW 321 bracelet to go with the case ...

very interesting!

am I assuming correctly that the entire shell is the NEW321 (case, bezel, pushers, sapphire front/back, etc.), while the entire innards (movement, dial, hands, etc.) are from the donor?

Yes. The case came with the ceramic bezel installed along with the case back. It is a good thing since I would not be comfortable installing the ceramic bezel myself!

OB ordered that for me, now on FOiS
here is the part number

Thanks for posting. I've heard the 321 end links don't fit the FOIS exactly. Is that true? Or will the 321 end links fit?

Might I be so bold as to ask how much the OB charged you for the 321 bracelet?

I love the FOIS because of the lack of crownguards and straight lugs. It's such a clean look which my 6.5 inch wrist appreciates. I've owned a 3750.50 in the past but sold it since it looked a big large on my wrist and I could never get the bracelet to fit well due to the male end links and lack of half links. I love the vintage case shape so much I have the 60th anniversary Speedy as well. Paired with Forstner and Uncle Seiko flat link bracelets and vintage Omega buckle covers, the combination of modern construction and vintage looks is pretty incredible. I have to admit that shiny alpha hands takes a bit longer to read since I have to find the right angle for the light to hit. I don't normally notice the difference in sub dial hands unless I'm actively looking or thinking about them.

FOIS? best value for money Speedmaster right now.
Also doesn't have that giant box like the 1861 Speedy.

Sounds stupid but that's one of the big reasons why I never bought the 1861/1863 Speedmaster Pro.
