If an alarm clock can still have white paint after 75 years, why not an Omega watch? The fact is, you just don't know what color it was when it was new.

Tom

Because coloured lume to begin with did not go white?

You have GOT to be kidding. OLD magazine ads? That likely weren't color corrected to begin with?

Fine, you win.

Do it! Superlume Speedies have no soul, so it's a great way to add some. I'm holding a modern Speedmaster for my son, and have been thinking about getting it relumed in a similar manner.

Why? That's just ridiculous. "Hey, son, this absolutely perfect watch offended me, so it's now worthless. I wish I'd known in 2020 that in 2060 these watches would be valuable."

Tom, if an alarm clock can still have white paint after 75 years, and it began life that way, then why would not all Omega watches (or even just some) also still have white paint after 60/50/40/30 years IF THEY BEGAN LIFE THAT WAY? The answer is the same for both cases. Because after 75/65/55/45 years the color is still the same hue (more or less) as they began life 😵‍💫

You have GOT to be kidding.

You do realize paper / film if not color corrected will have the same incorrect colour throughtout, right (not just the lume)? THUS you can use the parts you KNOW are white (like the hands) and color correct them yourself...its the easiest thing in the world to do.

Fine, you win.

No, actually, I lose... precious minutes of my life ... explainging the obvious... as I am not the only person who knows this, there are many others, more clever people than I, who just don't care about other peoples misconceptions.

I believe he has the freedom to do what the hell he wants with his own stuff, just like you can do what you want with yours.
Also, i'm pretty sure his son would be hapy to have his dad watch NO MATTER the condition!!

Listen, you people go batshit about original Speedmasters. You delight in telling someone about the flaws.

If you care about original watches, then won't you at least tell someone that making a watch unoriginal risks devaluing it significantly?

I an getting really sick and tired of you f---ing hypocrites.

1) You are replying to me.
2) I care about original watches when someone want to sell a watch and have to disclose it. When someone change or mod his watch for his own pleasure he or she can do what they prefere wants and i have no problem with that ( well, unless the watch turn pink...)
3) PISS OFF!!

For what it's worth, while I totally agree that the OP has the right to do whatever he wants with his watch, in his place I would sell the new watch and buy a 1990s tritium model with real patina. It would be more satisfying to me to have a legit tritium Speedmaster than one that was modified and artificially colored. And since the warranty will be voided, the advantage of having a new watch is diminished.

I'm going to make a subtle change to my daily Moonwatch. This watch was bought from an AD last year to save my lovey vintage Speedmaster from the perils of the daily grind. However, every day when I look down at the dial I can't help but wish that it just didn't feel so cold. So with the help of The Alchemist Relumer I'm going to change the lume colour to something more in line with the new 321 EW.

I know haters are gonna hate but I can't wait, it's my watch and I think it's going to look bloody cool. 😀
So this is a pretty new watch. Why not buy a second set of dial and hands and do it on those so you keep the original watch alive for future potential use (selling, whatever)?.....

This was bought to be my daily beater. My stunt speedy to keep my other speedys looking sharp. In the short time I’ve owned this watch we’ve already bonded over some monumental moments in life. I don’t want to switch anything out, or as suggested by a tritium Speedmaster (I already have one of those) I just want to do a slight colour correction to the lume to warm it up a little. It’s less of a taking sandpaper to a pair of jeans to make them look vintage and more of a dying them the perfect denim indigo colour you know you’ll love. 😀

Why don’t you totally redo the dial with one of your illustrations (and correct the lume to birth year shade of minty-green 😜) ... the Sbleasemaster LE 1 of 1 ... Or, get a TinTin dial, paint the red checkers green, correct the lume as mentioned above ... heck I might want one of those...

Not an issue, as I have a half-dozen others from the last 5 years, as well as a true vintage. The #STs, Tintin, 60th, etc. are the ones I really would not touch. But the run-of-the mill circa 2015 Speedy? It makes me feel a bit dead inside now. It was okay when I first got it, but over the last few years it has ceased to feel special.

I'm actually surprised to hear this coming from you, as you are usually the first to tell people to do whatever the eff they want with their watches. So I could polish the crap out of it, etc., but I should not consider doing anything to improve the dial aesthetics? 😵‍💫

EDIT -- oops, I guess I should have read the posts after VetPsych's before I bothered typing this...

I think, as you already own original tritium dial watches and it is your daily beater in any case, you're on right track to make it more desirable for you for daily wear.

Since there is no concern for selling it later, I feel, doing a subtle change on lume colour would be perfectly okay and would make it look sexier. It BTW already looks sexy as it is.
