Talk me out of this one (or not)

I have been looking for a stainless steel, chunky-looking, lady-sized, time-only, manual winding watch on an (passably) original link-style bracelet. These are actually pretty hard to find! There aren't many smaller manual watches on bracelets, and there aren't many bracelets that fit that lug width, especially other than milanese bracelet.

I found this one and I actually do like the design a lot. I haven't seen it before.

Unfortunately, it's from a Japanese seller with slightly mixed reviews who is at least upfront about it being unserviced and unguaranteed. There are no pics of the movement. It's also FILTHY. Seems more like dirt than corrosion, but who knows.

I know I'm going to have it service (and cleaned on the outside!) but how stupid of a buy is this really?

And I'm taking any tips on other listings that might fit the bill. I'm not trying to spend more than $500 before servicing.

If not serviced. Why double the price? You can’t see the movement and I would never buy any watch without that image.

A service could cost $300. Not including parts. Even worse. A movement with discontinued parts.

Lot of women that buy vintage. Want jewels on the case. See it more as additional jewellery than watch.

Chunky women's models. Harder to find

For whatever its worth, I think the case and bracelet design are very cool and seem to be in pretty good condition, after cleaning they will look terrific. As DON (Dot Over Ninety) says, anything we say about the movement is speculation with the info the seller has provided so far.

Be careful of Japanese bracelet watches, many links are often taken out to fit the local population and are often not included in the sale and not available anymore.

Pricewise that is probably par for the course at the moment. Ideally you can find one at auction and get it cheaper.

Would be a gamble on the condition of the movement. Cal. 635 is not too common but you can still find select parts or find donor movements.

Exactly, although the bracelet is described as 165mm (6.4"), but who knows how that was measured.
In addition, it's an integrated bracelet, so you're stuck with it, no strap/bracelet change options.

Fortunately I am pretty petite. But also good point about the measurements being unreliable..
