    Hi everyone

I would like to start a discussion about how to assess dial patina on vintage omegas.

As a new collector I'm finding it difficult to assess patina or dark spots on dials as to how it affects the overall watch value and how it is going to affect the look of the dial as the patina develops with aging..

I realise the attractiveness of each patina is in the eye of the beholder though.

I invite the experts (or anyone) to give their valued opinions on this subject and I'm sure it will help other new collectors too.

I have an example to kick the discussion off.

A 1962 Seamaster ref. 14770 that I posted on a previous thread. How much would the patina affect the value? And is this a patina that could be lived going forward.

I hope to hear from you all soon!

Not that bad, need better photos to see exactly what is going on.

To most any dial issues affect price.
Every watch has a value but to me dial and case make up a large part of the value and allure to a watch. ( but it also depends on what watch )

I was happy to over pay a bit for this condition and would all day every day.

    I also quickly bought these

Oddly the lugs on this aren’t as bad as they look in this photo

Thanks. I think I'm with you on putting most of the value on the dial and case condition. Your purchases are of the standard I will look for even if it means taking longer to find it.

There are lots of threads on this topic. What is beautiful patina to some is damage to others. It is only your opinion that counts since it's on your wrist. Try these threads to see what has been discussed previously:
