That's a highly sought-after "Oreo cookie Vanilla" dial. I assume that Hodinkee is planning a special edition...

I dontd think this should be called "patina", I think it's just a poorly aged dial

There's 'patina' due to age and there's 'damage' due to water intrusion.

Here the latter created a moldy look of the dial. No 'patina' for me.

This one gets a pass from me - obviously not at a premium like people seem to charge for damaged Rolex dials, but this is quite evenly damaged and thus looks interesting to me. If it were more splotchy, or only partially looked like this it would be .

But not at the current price on it. That's ludicrous.

I find it miraculous none of the dial paint was subject to damage...

The sad part is that some poor bugger will soon be walking around with this health hazard strapped to their wrist... and what's more there's further evidence of the Oreo mould on the movement parts... :( Each to their own I suppose.

That Enicar (lovely watch btw) is more 'starburst' as the 16660 boys would say, than mould... Hence you'd be more than welcome to that one with pride!

I saw this one for sale within the last couple of days. This sort of patina seems beautiful to me (just as so many others do not). It has a sort of Cosmic look.
But the question it raises is isn't that flaking off the dial? And so won't it continue? Stable? Just where does all the newly flaked off material go? It just continues to accumulate between the dial and the crystal? Won't the hands eventually find it? Over the long haul does one periodically open it up to clean out the debris?

Do you think it is is flaking? I would think it is color degradation quite common in blue dials of those years.
