I was once asked how my Series 3 drove..."like a lathe"
Only Landie I've driven would have been a IIA and if asked I'd have said "Like it has a 4 tonne boat anchor aboard".

Then I did drive it with well over 4 tonnes on a trailer behind. "Like it's anchored...". It was brand new when I drove it from Birmingham to the north coast of Scotland, but it was a wreck after 6 months of construction site duty.

Was able to find a 22’ VW Atlas to my liking at MSRP here on the east coast. It really depends on the dealer, other dealers quoted me 1k-2.5k above msrp.

2022 VW Atlas SE with Tech, VR6, 4Motion in racing green:

What doesn’t help with the Land Rovers is that they haven’t been producing them while on lockdown in the UK. Most dealers near me only have a handful of vehicles on the lot.

Nice truck!

Special order wait time is 6-8 months. It helps that the largest LRJ dealer in the US is local.

We run 90s and 110s and even have a Carpathian on the fleet. On the road they drive and feel similar to Range Rovers but have a more commanding presence. Off road they are truly amazing even on road tyres and we use them on construction sites/farms/quarries and estuary projects. We have had no major issues apart from odd rogue warning lights which clear when you restart.
The Carpathian is a 525 bhp beast of a machine which we all fight to use but in the UK the 11 miles to the gallon make it an expensive toy.

Nice! My wife picked one up in '19. SE w/ Tech. No 4Motion though because most of the ones that make it to FL don't have that option...because we don't really need it. But I definitely would not mind having it. It is a big ol' car for FWD.
But we've had it for about 2.5 years now and about 25k mi. and have been happy with it.
Though the urge to order a Bronco and trade it in is strong.
But as I'm sure you know, all the kid gear requires some serious space sometimes, and the Bronco is probably a little on the small side.
Glad we bought it when we did though, I got about $8k OFF MSRP lol.

So I guess I should close this thread out.

2 months back the dealership confirmed by allocation and I went in to finalize the order process. On the way home I got a text that they would be putting 10k markup on it.

long story short I passed. It’s not an arguement I would have won, and I see they need to make a profit after years of few sales and low inventory numbers.

At the same time I put a deposit down on an R1S Rivian.

so hopefully in about a year my Rivian will be delivered.

I need a serious off-road capable vehicle, and don't want an open-bed truck, which really only leaves me a handful of viable options. I've been driving 4Runners for decades, but I've liked each of my last two a little less than the previous generation, which makes me willing to take a look around. I'm in no rush, and I am waiting to see the 6th gen 4Runner, (actually waiting for years now). But as things look now, I will definitely consider a 110 for my next vehicle.

considered a 110 but couldn't get over the new design and preferred the old body style.
I like the 4runner but they're a bit too rigid and uncomfortable, and the engine seemed anemic at times so ended up getting a sequoia TRD pro--
--about as off road as one needs for city-rural combo life unless you're actually traversing steep embankments and need a crawl feature
--insanely spacious if you need cargo capacity; handy for family of 4 for road trips
--V8 engine is extremely reliable and will last forever, if one can stomach the absurd gas consumption...the new generation has a twin turbo V6 so better in that department
--tech is low & little to go wrong electronic-wise--lots of buttons and knobs, little touch screen.
--true 3rd row
--big and safe. People who aren't familiar with the midwest may not realize the abundance of trucks on the road and the rural nature of the life. after losing someone to a drunk driver on a back country road, i'll never be in anything smaller than a tank unless it's short city commutes.

Very nice vehicle, but much larger than I need, and frankly the approach/departure angles for the 4Runner are already on the low side for some of the driving I do. Those features of the Defender 110 are attractive, although it is unfortunately a little wider than the 4Runner.

have you looked at Ineos?

also if you need real off road on the 110 there are some gotchas in the way the US specs are offered.

you end up having to make a few non immediately apparent choices otherwise you end up limited in tire choice so you can clear the larger brakes needed on the 500lb heavier soft hybrid i6.

If my only option was a boutique vehicle, I'd consider it, but overall I'm not really interested in being a guinea pig for a new brand and I frankly like having easy access to a dealership service department.

Good to know about the potential limitations in configuring the 110. Since any purchase is not imminent, I haven't put much research into it, and things could obviously change in the future, but I'll keep those issues in mind. Tires are a critical consideration for me, so I would always be asking about that.

It's actually one of my nit-picks with the newer 4Runners. The only trim level that now comes with the Torsen differential (which I love for my typical alternating snow/no-snow winter driving) is the Limited, which only comes with fancy wheels that take low-profile tires, which I hate for off-road use. Yes, obviously one can buy the Limited and then replace the wheels and tires, but the Limited is already not my desired trim level, never mind the extra cost/inconvenience of dealing with the wheels. Prior to gen-4, all 4Runners had the Torsen. Very strange that they downgraded, it actually took me by surprise at the time.

My reply text would have had some seriously choice language in it about where they could take their LR and insert it.

Pretty much any new car I want right now, has a markup. And I just refuse to pay it.
Also, with all of the new tech and stuff coming on new cars, it makes me appreciate all of my knobs, buttons and overall lack of tech.
I'm starting to think that I'll just be keeping my 2015 GTI indefinitely at this point. There is absolutely no reason not to.
Other than I just WANT something different lol.

I asked them when i ordered if they would put it in writing. They said no, but they had not been doing it on that model the sales manager looked me in the eye and gave me a handshake promise it wouldn’t happen.

Look things change they need to pay thier employees, and they had not been getting a lot of Stock to sell. I realized that yelling at the sales girl who helped me, and the sales manager would in the end do no good. It’s not thier fault, they had no reason to lie to me as they would have been able to sell what became my allocation regardless of me buying it or someone else. It was ownership and since I was unable to yell at them I walked away, angry but not taking it out on someone who’s fault it was not.

Rivan R1S is expected in Jan to July 2024... And yes I have the early pricing, with the quad motor 300 mile range option.

You could have a nice GTG in that!

Does this mean the price of your custom watch is increasing?
