3861 Speedy pro 2020

Just some comments of mine. If Apollo 13 has 3861 and cost around 9000 eur, how much would the next regular Moonwatch with hesalite cost? Current one is around 4500 eur. So I presume new one that is driven by 3861 should be around 6000-6500 eur?
Is this reasonable as expectation?

I'd pay through the nose for a modern white gold Speedmaster with Soleil dial.

I just want a yellow gold professional with black dial like back in the 90s

If the gossip I have heard is correct, the new 3861 Speedy will launch around Summer 2021, similar to existing 1861 but no hesalite version, just Sapphire both sides.

I’d probably expect a ceramic bezel too.

I would expect an updated bracelet along the lines of the Apollo 11. And a significant price bump, too. Probably in the $7500 to $8000 range.

Ouch. I hope it’s not 7.5 to 8k ! That seems a bit much for a coaxial movement and maybe a minor change or two.

Great. So my 1861 cal Speedmaster will loose an enormous amount of value when a 321 cal is released in SS standard edition.

Are you kidding? A non-limited 321 will be very high end, they will not even be the same market.

As for the 3861? It’s not just an escapement change, there are a significant amount of other changes in this movement to the point that it’s debatable whether it breaks its links in a heritage sense to the watches that went to the moon. It’s possible the 3861 does not retain the flight and EVA certification from NASA as they have very little need to do this no matter how much Omega’s marketing team want them to. The 1861 you have is a true “Moonwatch” with only relatively minor iterative changes to those watches from the 1960s.

‘as well as this I’d think the base model increases by at least $1000 with the new movement which will prop up the value of the used market for our older models.

my last point is: just chill out and enjoy the amazing piece of history on your wrist.

The 3861 will replace the sapphire sandwich.

The 1861 Hesalite is not going anywhere.

I doubt it makes any kind of economical sense to manufacture the 1861 just for the hesalite. The hesalite will get the 3861 and the sapphire sandwich will get the tarted up pretty version. The moon watches have not been keeping pace with Omega’s upward pricing trajectory and this movement update is the perfect excuse to give each model a $1k bump.

If/when the update happens, I suspect it will be greater than a $1k bump, the moonwatch is one of their flagship products.

I sincerely hope they also retired the monstrosity that is the 'speedmaster pet-coffin box' ... and make something better sized and that will not decompose in 20 years.

Hello,
since you seem really confident, may i ask if you have any official feedback or any info that you have heard?

Really thanks

while I agree with your questioning ... I have hung around here long enough to know that the source of information @STANDY (the well lubed and clean shaven (once in 6 months) desert-dwelling flop-and-thong wearer) uses is quite often correct (but as always, time will tell) ...

I know this is a stupid reason but this is one of the reasons why I never bought a normal Speedy Pro. I went with the FOIS since it comes with a much smaller box.

I agree completely. The hesalite makes for a perfect entry-level Moonwatch whilst keeping additional tiers for the 3861, 321, and (complete conjecture) a METAS co-ax 321. Ofcourse, there remains the plethora of special and limited edition pieces, with various permutations and combinations of movements, metals, and events.

I wonder if they will ever run a 'build you own moonwatch' program, I'd love the CK2998 LE Pulso with a 3861 (once they fix all the issues) in it, and a display caseback! Ideally I'd really like a 3861-type variant of the 1866 with the date and moonphase, but I'm not sure they'd do that; ah if wishes were horses...

Interestingly, I heard that it was the sapphire sandwich that is going away and that sapphire will be reserved for limited editions. This was from the local OB, but was earlier in the year so who knows.

To be fair, that would make sense given each le seems to have sapphire now.

I just am not sure that a plastic crystal will match omega’s vision of higher price point/ materials/ desirability which they appear to be aiming for.

maybe they will keep as an entry level Moonwatch. That would probably suit many....
