Yeah just watch Teddy Baldassare’s video with Omega’s ceo. He talked about a possible ss non le with 321 and one with 3861.

Raynald practically confirmed both non limited SS Moonwatches with 321 and 3861 for this year.

And also confirmed an announcement "very soon". So soon we know more I guess. Sounded promising when he talked about it.

Great. So my 1861 cal Speedmaster will loose an enormous amount of value when a 321 cal is released in SS standard edition.

It's not an iPhone. It'll probably drop in value for a short period after release then go back up. A discontinuation is what Rolex owners are praying for every single night before bedtime.

Did you buy the watch as an investment? If so, why?

Why would you assume that? Once they switch over to the 3861 as the standard movement, and an option for an even more expensive 321 for those that like to live in the past technology wise, there will be no more 1861 based Speedmasters produced. The number in circulation will be capped and although there have been a huge number made over the last 50 years, anytime a product ceases to be produced it tends to put a floor on the price. A SS 321 will have limited impact on the market because of number produced and the price. The expectation is the new base Speedmaster with the 3861 will be substantially more than the current model. So figure a bump from $5,350 to $7,000 range. They'll probably want another $5,000 for a 321 version, so it will be in the $12k range. The market for a $12k manual wound Speedmaster will be limited in my view to the collector types, and they are not an infinite pool. We will find out soon enough.

Of course, if Omega ditches the 1861, I don't see how they would be able to make a Speedmaster Pro that was still NASA EVS flight qualified. That's been a source of advertising Omega has used for years. I suppose the 321 was flight qualified by NASA, so perhaps if they replicated the original stainless steel Speedmaster they could maintain bragging rights on a current model at a substantially higher price.

I don't think it is much of a sales tool anymore, today almost any kind of watch is worn on the Space Station. Both NASA and Omega have been lukewarm about recertifying these new movements.....its purpose is past.

I assumed that because I'm a Noob and still learning about the crazy watch market world.

I would expect prices to increase quite a bit because it will still be the cheapest way to get in to a real moon watch.

Anyone heard any rumours about what cosmetic changes they will make (if any)?

I would hope that there's an applied logo per the new 321 - but I am not sure what else, if anything, they will change.

I don't think it will lose value at all.

    A SS Speedy Pro...

    - with co-axial escapement and silicon balance spring,
    - that's Master Chronometer-certified, and
    - has an applied logo (and hopefully 60s-style typeface, like on the Speedy Tuesdays)...

...all for $7000ish? Man that would be tempting.

I'm not sure I would take that bet just yet. With the Artemis program gearing up, I'd have to assume that Omega would dearly love to find a way to send the Moonwatch (either the 321 or the 3861, or perhaps the X-33) back to the Moon in some officially certified way as part of the standard-issue equipment for the astronauts. Whether NASA feels the same way is another matter, but I don't think the association with Omega has done NASA any harm. Why not continue it?

I'd add a ceramic bezel to that list of enhancements/updates -- and then run to my AD to plunk down my deposit.

I kinda like the aluminum, so I think I'd trade a ceramic bezel for a better bracelet. ;) (Admittedly, I might change my mind once I see a ceramic bezel in person).

    The bracelet!
The new 321 and both Apollo 50th Anniversary watches have way nicer bracelets than the current Speedmaster.
Add an applied logo and the ceramic bezel: I'm all in.
