🤦

Tough love here tonight 😁 Can you not see its a '3' and not a '5'?

I happily stand corrected ... but googling yields multiple that look like that ... including ones sold here.

etc.

Edit : aha ... those are self-facepalms ... we need more emojis 😀

Yes, self face-palm. BTW, I blame it on @Passover (and the fact that I didn't check the clasp carefully for myself). 😀

To the OP - I’d be very surprised if an AD can give you even the most basic info on this watch.

personally I wouldn’t waste the shoe leather in taking it to them.

You know, I would never have thought to take a vintage watch to an Omega AD for authentication. Do you think they actually know anything? Any time I’ve talked with someone at an AD I don’t get the impression that they are at all knowledgeable about vintage pieces.
Soooooooo.... I just
My vote goes to a pile of service and vintage parts put together... everything looks put together.

So here we go...
I just got home from the Omega Store in Fashion Valley here in San Diego. Yes, it’s put together with a bunch of parts... some legit... some not.

1) Clasp maybe Genuine Omega but actual bracelet is not because the use of cotter pins?

2) Caseback states 60m waterproof... the watch with acrylic glass will not be waterproof to 60m

3) Becuase if the gold hands, something else on the watch should also be gold (I.e. case). As was stated

4) without opening he said the polishing looks off in a couple places as well. And since the caseback can’t be authenticated with the watch he thinks it’s frankensteined as well.

Now to get my return together for Bobs watches. Thanks again everyone for ur help! Hopefully this post will help others out as well.

The complete bracelet in itself is legit. But it is not the correct bracelet for that watch.

I made a mistake by not looking close enough at the picture.

To be honest I never saw a 1173 bracelet before and it seems to be not very common at least beeing used on 60s watches.

Mine was a "self face-palm"

Bob's is a legit seller and mostly specializes in Rolex. I used Italics because I would still have a hard time trusting them. For example, if you Look at their Submariner lineup and filter lowest price first: Every Sub is listed in "excellent" condition despite all of the subs being overly polished. Luckily they have a no questions return policy.

I am curious though, were you able to get any of this in writing? I am inclined to believe Omega wouldn't write this down for you... But, if Bob's couldn't differentiate genuine from non genuine, I am also inclined to believe they wouldn't take your word for it if you told them.

Fortunately, I don't think he needs to justify the return.

I don't think so either. I'm more curious of what's to stop Bob's from re-listing it in the same manner.

Wow Bobs Watches is sticking to their guns! They believe their expert is correct in all the aspects of authenticity. Interesting.... Anyhow, they are issuing me a full refund And will take care of shipping the watch back. They were very nice about everything but it puzzled me that they were not interested in my findings...

This doesn’t surprise me. They have “in house experts” and to them you are a nobody.

@Mister2kris did you at least get the caseback open and the movement serial number? What was Bob’s watches asking?

I wasn’t allowed to becuase it would void a return 🙁. It would have been interesting. Also the Omega Guy also said this was not an 80’s seamaster chronograph lol.

Well, that's disappointing, but good to know. I think it will be interesting to follow up and see if they do decide to change anything about this listing. Or if they pull the listing entirely. The problem for them is that the issues with this watch are so serious, that it would basically disqualify the watch for sale. Still, a really good dealer would ultimately accept that, and dump the watch somehow. It degrades them as a dealer to list a franken on their website.

Bobs watches guy said, “you have your experts and I have mine”. Hehehe kinda funny huh. And I told him I went to the Omega Store.

They know there will be another buyer who will trust them, will not research himself and will end up by paying the noob tax.

You should give him the link to this thread. He still may not admit that he is wrong, but he could learn something and may quietly decide not to re-list the watch.

Very disappointing. Bob’s has been recommended in a number of places. But, this isn’t a close call, to me at least.

Who’ll show up here again...
