Bottas is getting another year at Mercedes which is already worth millions of dollars, GBP, or Euros more than he'll get winning a single race. Him being a team player means they'll want to keep him around more as long as Lewis delivers championships. It's not like Bottas is going to get a drive from Ferrari, RB, or any other big money team.
Bottas will be in F1 longer then Hamilton and will earn a WDC at some point. He is a great driver with a great future ahead of him.

IMHO I'm not 100% convinced BOT has it in him to be a champion, solid driver, but can be off the pace for no reason during race day, or take a long time to get going.
Given the LEC move, who does Merc have in waiting for the next generation? Seen a few folks pontificate on HAM's future over the next couple of years, what's your thoughts?
- He's going for the record number of championships? He has the time.
- He'll wander off to a slower team 'for the challenge' of building them up?
- He'll quit racing completely to focus on his music or whatever ( don't buy this one personally)
- He'll go off to try and do the triple in the next couple of years?
- Go to Formula E...pffft.
- Bombardier salesman.

Hamilton will stick around until at least 2020. He's winning this year and Mercedes provides him a great opportunity for 2019 and 2020 to tie Schumacher. His contract also runs through 2020. By then, he'll be 35 and may want to start looking at other things if the 2021 regs aren't to the manufacturers' liking and Mercedes withdraws as a works team. I don't see him going off to a slow team for the challenge or joining FE.

Yeah I think he's too worried about becoming the F1 GOAT for him to even consider leaving in the next couple of seasons, or switching to a slower team.
It honestly would not surprise me if he leaves F1 for music and fashion, but, again, I don't see that happening till he has achieved his goal, or decides he just wants to quit the sport. Either way that is still a couple of seasons away.
He has already stated that he has no interest in the triple crown, so that can be ruled out for now as well.
Mercedes will definitely be an interesting team to watch over the next couple of seasons.
I agree with BOT not being champion material, so how long will he be ok with playing second fiddle to HAM?
I don't remember what his contract terms are but if next season is a replay of this season I don't see him staying as basically a body-guard.
OCO is linked to the Silver Arrows so wouldn't it be neat to see him have a seat there. Same with Pascal Wehrlein.
Maybe he will continue to race DTM until there is a vacancy.

Bottas is a solid 2nd driver, which is proberbly better than having two raw talents. No doubt about who is number 1, keep your top man on his toes but not threatened. Happier team healthier atmosphere. I am sure Hamilton is much happier than when he was being tested by Rosburg(who I think left because it was too pressured)

Hamilton seems set to dominate for a couple more years and very settled. Like Rossi he could just carry on and on...

I was thinking about this on Monday ... just idle wondering. If Hamilton stays in the sport as long as Schumacher did ... he won't leave until 2029. Afterall, if you're on the pace why think of moving elsewhere? He wants to set records, not sing on them.

My guess is as long as Mercedes wants him and continues to pay him accordingly. He's not going to downgrade to a slower team now for a #1 status that won't ever have a chance to win a race in the current formula. At least with Mercedes, he gets paid a boat load, can compete for podiums, and get the occasional win. He'll be well received by the Mercedes fans (similar to Massa and Barichello at Ferrari) if he plays wingman to Lewis and Lewis gets to 7 championships.

That would be my response to my own question lol.
I agree 100%, if i was in his position that's what I would do for sure.
But I'm not, so who knows what he's actually thinking.
Maybe he'll get sick of it and wont care about going to another team.

Lewis has it, Ferrari have completely chucked the 2018 championship away now.

Aye it’s not mathematically assured... but yeah it’s over. US feed cut out after the post race top 3 interview. Was there a Vettel interview?

Max doesn’t give an inch to anyone. He’s a huge thorn in Ferrari’s side.

I would never wish him any actual harm but I wish somebody would punch Max in the face a few times. Maybe Alonzo could do it as the senior spokesman for entitled midpack drivers.

“I went of track Kimi should gave me the position... “ BS Max I called unsafe return to the track as soon as you did it.

Seb... 60% Sebs fault. Max cut inside the racing line to defend and technically gave him room... but there was no way that would end well when he defended his lack of experience showed again.

I miss Kobyashi... that guy could drive aggressive and safely.

Every time Max screws up and is given a penalty it’s always Charlie is ruining racing. It’s never Max’s fault when he drives like he’s in NASCAR.

Still Max drove an amazing race. He fυcked up at the Raikkonen incident but feel like the Vettel incident was handled well.
He got damage from the crash but still had better pace than Bottas, who he couldn't overtake ofcourse because of the Mercedes straight line speed.

Max the focus again. RAI incident, given the slippery green, I thought it a 50/50 given the slamming he gets - cut straight and be deemed to be gaining an advantage and be forced to possibly give a place back? Push hard lock and have an awkward reentry? Meh.
FER will go for him when VET retires.
Was more annoyed at LEC giving VET a free ride past not once but twice, and in space. Should have made him work for it.
And what was going on with BOT consistency in the last 3rd of the race? Did he fall asleep?

No he should have slowed more and cut the wheel less and re-entered behind Kimi. He tried to stay on track to prevent him being forced to “give back” the place for going off track and gaining an advantage.

Just like Force India doesn’t hold back Mercs, the Alfa/Sauber is not going to a press a fight they are not in causing slow downs for both drivers for the inevitable, but they are junior teams that are not going to hold back their engine partner. STR has been giving free passes to RBR for years.

I acknowledge this happens but I do feel like this is bad for the sport. Should not be this way.
