I kept seeing articles over the weekend that LEC had given Ferrari a verbal.
Not sure if it is really true or not.
I don't have anything against him...but I would't mid seeing perhaps someone else take Kimi's seat...if that is what happens.

As for the race I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome!
Good for Max, he needs races like this. Also was super pumped for those at HAAS.
And of course I was glad to see VET make his way back up to the podium.

Just for the shake up I'd love to see LEC given the Ferrari seat. Could be like Hamilton at McClaren in his early days

Alonso got P8 so I expect him to talk about how this was his greatest race ever and no other drive could do what he did today.
Really? I think considering the situation with the new engine not helping... he’s been in extremely critical of the car in a very for lack of a better term politically correct way. Talking up Vandorn as being one of the best new drivers and leaving it very loudly unsaid the car is crap.

Here is an odd theory... Riccardo is not looking so good to Ferrari right now and there is a question to if he would partner with Vettel again even if he gets a ride with a prancing horse. Verstappen has 1 year left and appears to have talent and is improving. Ferrari takes a one year with Alanso and has the option to get Max next year if he continues to improve.

Either way Ferrari gets a good driver and Alonso gets a chance to go out on top. Alonso is super good from a PR standpoint and Max’s following is getting insane.

Ferrari is never taking Alonso again. He basically burned all his bridges there. None of the big teams want him and for good reason, he kills the team atmosphere.

Button says otherwise.... If anyone kills a teams atmosphere its Vettel... Only Kimi and his IDGAF attitude allows that to work. Weber hated him, Riccardo was not happy with him.. Alonso could work with him, as there seems to be no issue between them and Alonso has shown he can team up with another WDC winner with no issues. Yes in the past like Hamilton, Alonso was a little full of himself, but since the McLaren move and the end of the Ferrari years he seems alot more humble and mellow. If he can repeatedly take the broken promises of a good car from McLaren and no implode, it shows some strength of character.

Are we really sure he burned the bridges? I think Ferrari forced him out for Vettel and he kept his mouth shut. With Max's contract up next year, and Kimi a perpetual free agent, I think a one year Alonso contract makes sense, he wants to go out on top and this would be his chance. I do not see Ferrari taking anyone else for 1 year.

What is going to be interesting and I said it before the season, if Bottas starts eclipsing Hamilton.... how is that going to shake out? Bottas is getting stronger and stronger...

@Foo2rama

Can you please explain where you are getting the information that Max has only a 1 year contract left? As my understanding is that he only very recently signed a new multi year deal for some really big $$$$$$ to stay with Red Bull for the long term. It is Ricciardo that is now in the final year and needs to sign a new contract or move on as at the moment Max is getting the bigger pay day and may want parity but who knows if he will get it or not.

Ahh I missed he extended it one more year at the end of last year. We yanks don’t get a lot of F1 news.

Still makes sense giving Alonso 2 years for a comeback. Kimi is filling a seat, and I can’t believe I’m saying this.... cares less then ever about his image. He basically told Brundle to piss off and went out of his way to go beyond brushing him off.

Silly season works out to me that either Alonso or Kimi is gone from F1 if not both. Ricardo’s most likely going to leave Redbull, no way Alonso's staying at McLaren. I’m not 100% sure Ricardo wants Ferrari or Ferrari wants him gambling on Max continuing to improve and be open in 2 years.

Dani has nowhere to go. Ferrari and Mercedes don’t want him. McLaren is dogshit right now and will be years before they can compete for a championship. Renault might have a chance in a couple of years but are still way behind RB. His best bet to win a WDC is to stay at RB and let Max’s immaturity ruin his season so Dani can capitalize.

I agree but Honda next year? Will Ricardo stay with that engine? Maybe they know something we don’t with STR testing. But this year seems worse for them then last with the Renault. They have to be sharing data right? Haas is definitely with Ferrari.

IMHO ALO is gone, he has other things to do and McClaren aren't coming up with the goods. Teams rarely look backwards for talent, there is a tonne of it in the mid field. SAI is very well regarded and was instrumental to the Renault deal the other year that involved half the paddock , not sure what contract he's on tho.

Good day at Silverstone today. Lewis got the job done but Vettel was on song all day. As usual Red Bull made up the rest.
How about Brendan Hartley! Good thing he was able to walk away, he has not had much luck this season.
Anyone going out tomorrow?

I will confess to it being an awesome weekend, spending with my oldest friend riding bikes and being stupid. But, I am missing being in the big noisy field, a lot. Not seen quali yet either.

Well that was certainly entertaining. Gutted not to be there, crowd sounded immense. HAM understandably annoyed with him self, bad luck for LEC, but again shows how mature he is in handling it ( Fezza move next year?)and I think GRO may have had it in F1.

Tense and exciting race today. Decent recovery drive by Lewis but he totally screwed the pooch on the start. Really good drive by Vettel to take a decent sized lead this year in the WDC. Last year, Mercedes crushed Ferrari on the European leg and basically won both championships after the European races. This year, Mercedes has been off all year.

Superb race!!! Final laps with the Mercs and Ferraris bunched together was thrilling stuff. Commanding performance from Vettel, exciting drive from Kimi, and great recovery drive from Hamilton.

Hamilton seemed pretty pissed off with Kimi's contact, but when he calms down I think he will see that he pretty much lost the race due to self-inflicted wheel spin from an over aggressive start, allowing several cars to jump him before the second corner. Even without the Kimi incident I honestly think he would have had a tough time beating Vettel after losing P1 at the start.

At the end of the race I was disappointed with Merc's attitude, throwing wild accusations of deliberate Ferrari tactics to take Merc drivers out. I honestly expected a classier post race approach. I think it does go to show that Merc are feeling the pressure of not having the previous comfort zone of the best car on the grid by a significant margin. They are now behind both in the drivers and constructors championship and are losing points in tracks where they previously used to dominate.

I am still rooting for Hamilton, but I have to say that I have been very impressed with Ferrari this year.

Nah. He's got better taste than that.
Ref Horner's watch, from a sponsorship perspective it clearly had to be a modern Tag-Heuer and out of the current TH product range I think the Autavia reissue is probably one of the more discreet options. Fully agree that the ST or just about any other Speedy LE is more elegant ...side-by-side comparison shot below with my XI-45 LE.
