Superb race!!! Final laps with the Mercs and Ferraris bunched together was thrilling stuff. Commanding performance from Vettel, exciting drive from Kimi, and great recovery drive from Hamilton.

Hamilton seemed pretty pissed off with Kimi's contact, but when he calms down I think he will see that he pretty much lost the race due to self-inflicted wheel spin from an over aggressive start, allowing several cars to jump him before the second corner. Even without the Kimi incident I honestly think he would have had a tough time beating Vettel after losing P1 at the start.

At the end of the race I was disappointed with Merc's attitude, throwing wild accusations of deliberate Ferrari tactics to take Merc drivers out. I honestly expected a classier post race approach. I think it does go to show that Merc are feeling the pressure of not having the previous comfort zone of the best car on the grid by a significant margin. They are now behind both in the drivers and constructors championship and are losing points in tracks where they previously used to dominate.

I am still rooting for Hamilton, but I have to say that I have been very impressed with Ferrari this year.

Tried to get a last minute ticket but a chap wanted to stiff me, asking me to pay for it ahead of receiving it! So I didn't go as that was a big no! Otherwise I'd have been £80 down. There were stadium seats on the gate for sunday but would have been £500!!!!!!!!!

I thought Hamilton again behaved like a spoilt little pr*ck. 130k fans there, the majority to support him and he sulks off after making a terribly immature accusation. Being English I want him to win but seriously - he needs to get a grip. Merc should chastise him for that behaviour,

It would have been slightly more understandable had his car broken and he went out of the race, but to end up last and fight through to second was simply brilliant. Shame his attitude wasn't.

I've been waiting for someone to call out Hamilton - and I couldn't have said it better myself.
Compare his attitude to Leclerc's, who must have been equally disappointed with his DNF.

Hamilton seems to be on a major PR campaign to change the public's perception of him
Reminds me of a little ditty from my childhood:

"Mary had a little lamb - its feet were made of lard
Every step that lamb would take, it slipped back half a yard"

Hamilton is an exceptional driver and had a phenomenal race - shame he's such a brat

Hamilton’s is but a thin veneer of good manners. As to his abilities in the car, always remember that his was a very cossetted apprenticeship brought about by Ron’s desire to be known for a socially liberal outlook. Hamilton was Ron’s political project as much as a driver signing. Having run my son in Cadet/Junior karting I’m sure that there were any number of drivers who could have developed the skills and then experience afforded in his Rye House days to Hamilton by his ‘adoption’ by McLaren throughout the latter stages of his karting and then his progress through the junior car formulae. Unlike most, Hamilton never had the character-building experience of driving something like a Minardi, Simtek or the like for a few seasons. Hence his brittle demeanor today when everything’s not delivered to him on a solid gold plate.

Amid all the blurb about drivers’ records at the British Grand Prix, it irks me that a driver like Hamilton is lauded to a much greater extent than someone like JYS. In our contemporary era the sheer number of races skews the stats of course, but however one applies metrics, Hamilton cannot be favourably compared with Sir Jackie. And it’s not as if JYS was a shrinking violet - with his long hair, cap and general trendiness, he was edgy in his day, but surely not with the tinge of silliness that characterises Hamilton’s ‘fashion’ sense and ludicrous mid-Atlantic accent. Never mind Sir, I’d say Saint Jackie Stewart; I have only seen him make two mistakes in his whole life: 1) Going off when chasing Peterson at Silverstone, 1973, and, 2) Being such a consistent advocate of the devil’s own watch brand!

Fascinating race.

My earlier post has not proven to be correct:
What a boring Canadian GP!
Overtaking with these cars seems near impossible. Let's hope for rain in the remaining races of this season.

The races after Canada have definitely been interesting without a wet track.

Leclerc is just a lovely bloke, he's the kind of kid you would want your daughter to marry if you had one. I can't believe he managed to turn a tyre falling off into an opportunity to thank his pit crew for the incredibly fast service they've been giving him, its like nobody ever had him read the racing driver's book of excuses.

I think Jeremy Clarkson summed it up well (as these are my feelings as well):

"Tremendous racing driver. Awful sportsman."

What an ass though pretty much accusing Ferrari of purposely trying to take them out of the race.
Does he really think both RAI and VET would risk ruining their race as well just to take out one of the Mercs?
Last time with BOT and VET was a racing incident, and so was this.
I know people get heated in the moment but still.
I would be saying that if the roles were reversed.
They can all be cry babies when things don't go their way but HAM is the king of them.

But in F2 news did anyone see that the American HAAS development driver Santino Ferrucci basically just ruined his career?

That kid is insane, he has a $2Million/year seat and he's just thrown it away along with all of the money his sponsors poured into him over a temper tantrum. There's bad sports and then there's destroying your future to give the finger to the FIA.

My opinion of Lewis Hamilton has not changed over the years and his statements over the weekend only reinforce my beliefs. My disbelief comes from what Toto Wolff said and just how bad that makes Mercedes look. He tried to cover it by quoting Allison, but if he didn’t mean it, why did he say it? I’m also curious if he meant Kimi or Ferrari in general. Kimi, along with Bottas and Riccardo, are the last drivers I would expect to deliberately hit off another driver.

And Lauda should learn to keep his mouth shut. He's as bad as Hamilton in thinking Mercedes have a god given right to win every race.

The British have the perfect word for Hamilton: he's a twat. A talented twat to be sure, but a twat nonetheless.

Ha Ha, we agree . . . but your post has the virtue of being succinct against my regrettable long-windedness!

Twat doesn't even come close.

You mean Lauda is being Lauda? He’s always been like that.

I was disappointed with Hamilton's attitude avoiding the post race interview with Brundle and general comments during the press conference.

He seemed to be taking a more mature high-road approach so far during the season, but behaved like a spoiled brat in front of his home crowd. Still feel he has more positives than negatives overall, but if he carries on with this behavior, I for one will no longer be cheering him on.

Agree with the above posts that Leclerc is a breath of fresh air in the sport. Competitive without the "attitude".

Ferrucci tried to put "Make America Great Again" on his car. That guy is an idiot.

Hah yeah there was that too...
Any news about him in the last couple days after the incident?
I haven't stumbled across anything at least...

Just him apologizing and that's it. Failure to attend the stewards hearing post race was due to a drug test.
