Was wondering the same. What problem did they have, others didn't, and that is the most efficient solution. I'm pretty sure Sauber are still using lollipop sticks
Best guess is that the design cuts down on vibration, something a lot of drivers have complained about as affecting their rear vision both at speed and cornering. That said, it does seem to offer the opportunity to further control air flow.

Edit: i might well have confused two conversations there ... my reply was to the question of the new mirror design.

What a drive from Lewis Hamilton!

Also very happy that Max finally got a good result, got scared he f’ed his race when he lost his end plate.

IMHO bit of a race by numbers once it settled down. VES did well, VET seemed adrift .
Was there any explanation why Sirotkin was doing surprise donuts on a straight as part of the 'WTF 5 Minutes' that seemed to happen for the presenters?

9 straight races dating back to last year without a point now. He should start worrying about his contract status if he doesn’t turn it around fast.

Car in front got out of shape he had to hit his brakes and it unsettled the car. Once it started to rotate not much he could really do. When the final replays came out later you could see it was not really his fault.

On the other hand... Max got in another accident.

I usually agree with you but not on this one.
Grosjean said after the race that he lost the car when he broke and he tried to do a 360 to recover, you just can't do a 360 in turn 3 on lap 1 in the middle of the traffic. It was fully his fault after he reacted to Magnussen having a moment.

And on your comment on Max, yup he had an incident, but Ricciardo spun, Kimi's car blew up, Vettel couldn't catch up to Max, lots of things happening, and always people will comment on 1 guy if he had one moment but drove an amazing race, and that's Max.

Yeah I caught that about an hour ago...🙁

At least he owned up to being a bonehead. I read it he was going to rotate back into traffic after he lost it... but if he was making it worse for the wrong reason...

I can see Leclerc taking over from Grosjean at Hass next year. The young lad has got his act together and put in another great drive for Sauber. Don't see him ready yet to move up to Ferrari in 2019 and Kimi might be able to get a one contract extension.

Kevin Magnuseen has been incredible. I still think he is a bit of a prat, but his consistency for Hass has been impressive.

Lewis was just on a different planet. What I found interesting is that he still loves challenge of coming back from under performing to beating the opposition, so his motivation to continue in F1 is still there.

Seb drove as well as he could within the car/tire limitations he had, with a great overtake on Bottas at the start and also existing the pit lane.

Alonso and Sainz put in good fighing drives for the home crowd.

Williams look awful...almost at "Minardi" level 🙁

General comment on tires: although the knife edge nature of the tire performance windows on the Pirellis has meant that no one can make a call as to what will happen on a given race weekend (which is fun), I think it must be very frustrating for the teams and drivers to put in a huge amount of effort to improve performance and then a track temp change on a given race day destroy all the effort, setup work and planning.

Ar Barcelona I think Seb's setup would have performed better with a cooler track temp. Lewis seemed to have better tire performance with the hot sunny weather, but the way he destroyed Bottas shows that he did find something special and that it was not just lucking into the tire window on Sunday.

Monaco should be fun if the Red Bulls don't lock out the front row...can't see Verstappen and Daniel not wanting to give everything for a first win😀 Rooting for Daniel as he was quite deserving of the Monaco win 2016 and could have been pole in 2017.

Pretty underwhelming race in my opinion but some points that I was going to touch on have already been covered above.
Bring on Monaco!

We did have a run of 3 pretty decent races. We're bound to get a dud every once in awhile.

Hamilton had the easiest win of his life yesterday. I agree with above, Grojean at this rate will be out of Haas and maybe even F1.
Excited for the chaos of Monaco to come!

Yeah that's racing for you.
All good with me though. I'd much rather have a competitive season, makes things more interesting.

And yeah if Grosjean does not get his shit together he is going to be gone.
KMag is single handily, the only reason why HAAS has any points.
He already has just as many points as he scored all last season.
He can be a bit of a wild man, but the numbers don't lie. Even more impressive is that HAAS is such a new team, and I also believe had the smallest budget of any F1 team this season.

Has Max got through a race this season without some stupid incident with his over aggressive driving style?

Hah that's pretty good.
What are the chances he finds a wall this weekend?

Also, Hypersofts making their debut this weekend...

Two years ago he found a wall in practice, qualifying ánd in the race 😁

Last year he seemed calmer, I’m hoping for Ricciardo or Verstappen to take pole this weekend.

And excited about the hyper softs, even though we will probably see less than 5 overtakes on track, I can’t wait, Monaco is my favourite track, last year I visited, incredible atmosphere.
