Went to our first outdoor music of the year last week, and it was an 80's night!

I ran to make sure I was there in time to see A Flock of Seagulls...

For the Canadian 80's music fans, you may recognize the guitarist on the right as Gord Deppe from The Spoons. I haven't seen him in person since a pub night at school back in 1984 or so...still the same haircut! I was kinda hoping a spontaneous Nova Heart would break out, but it didn't. Still, great set by these guys!

Although I wasn't sitting comfortably, I thought it doesn't really matter, because Platinum Blonde were next - another band from a pub night in school many years ago. Saw them a few years ago as well and they still sound great.

By this time I was hungry, so went for some food while Richard Paige (no, not the TZ guy) of Mr. Mister played his set. I can't say they were a favourite band of mine, but the set was sounded good from where I was anyway...no photo...

Although it was too early to need patio lanterns, Kim Mitchell did his rock n roll duty well - this was one of my favourite sets of the night. Glad I didn't go for soda while he was on...

I couldn't believe that things can only get better, but they did when Howard Jones came on stage...

Again not someone I was a huge fan of, but I enjoyed his set more than I expected to. He was great!

Well, every rose has it's thorn, and for me the next act was the thorn of the night - almost poison to my ears. Went for a walk while he unskinny bopped through his set, but I did take this photo from a distance...

All through the night, anticipation was building for the final act. Certainly the girls just wanted to have fun with Cyndi Lauper...she's so unusual...but good!

So I have been immersed in various 80's music since then...

Cheers, Al

Well, due to noise bylaws it ended shortly after 11. But contrary to your belief there were people there of all ages. In the area I was in no one under 19 was allowed since that is the drinking age, but in the other areas there were people younger than that...

If you're an R & B fan, and enjoy the social-consciousness songs of the 1970's, by artists such as Curtis Mayfield or Isaac Hayes, you may enjoy this little gem by Charles Bradley, who spent much of his career as a James Brown tribute entertainer. Actually written in 2016, it has the authentic sound and feel of the songs from back in that era, which is quite remarkable. Charles died just last year, so a shout out to him for his contribution to the musical landscape.

I bet no one else here listens to hardcore techno.. used to party a lot in my twenties, and somehow i’m stuck on it, even approaching fourty. It doesn’t detract me from being a decent human being and watch nut, all right? ☝️
At the minute I’m listening to Timo Maas / Maetrik
