Spent about 30 minutes looking for a specific recording of Beethoven’s 6th. My memory was leading me astray since I though it was a Berlin Philharmonic recording with Herbert von Karajan conducting (I listened to a lot of these back in the day). After hearing some very thin and stodgy versions, I resorted to digging into my old stash of vinyl to confirm the one I was after...

Okay, that’s why! Onto Tidal, et viola...

Walter’s take on this is my favourite, and although the recording has tape hiss, it is the most full and expansive sounding version I’ve heard. Love it!

Original recorded in 1958 and then remastered. My vinyl version is from 1981, which is a few years before I bought it (1983 probably). It’s fantastic...

I totally appreciate where you are coming from with regards to different artists and recordings specifically of Beethoven and in particular the Pastoral.
I too have my favorite and every other one I hear I compare to it and mostly unfavorably ( but never in a bad way ) so I will look forward to trying your favorite.

Here is mine but having said that I love EVERY recording that I hear, if there was ever music that really could put you in a state of bliss this is it, that said I can think of no Beethoven I do not adore, people talk of Mozart's genius and yes he was but to me Beethoven was on a whole other level.

I have some classical recordings of the instruments they would have played on in the era. The good instruments went off to war so many of the greats were writting knowing bottom of the barrel instruments would play their beautiful music. I think the pack I got focused on Beethoven. Although I love classical I did not think my ear was trained enough to pick up the differences but I actually could on a very good stereo. I can’t listen to classical driving last time I did I got my first speeding ticket in 10 years probably longer.

Though I prefer Mozart above all others, Beethoven's 6th is quite possibly my favorite piece of all time. Beethoven is Mrs. noelekal's very favorite composer and she makes a great argument about his passion exhibited in his music.

I like to get her all stirred up when I say that the 6th is so good that it must have been composed by Mozart.
