Vacation? What's that?!?! It depends on where I'm going. If it's some place dodgy, g-shock. If it is not...I'll dress it up with an Omega...

BB41 on nato

Otherwise I burn through leather straps with sweat and all sorts.

Usually take a sub too and a leather speedmaster for the evening. Maybe the 1948 seamaster this year.

These two, the seiko for traveling, beach, swimming and other activities. The seamaster for the evenings.

Anyone else worried about wearing expensive watches in places that you don't normally inhabit? We are off to the Caribbean on holiday this year (first for all of us) and I'll be wearing a £50 G-Shock for the duration. Bit nervous about security given recent stories I've heard from friends who have holiday in Europe and elsewhere recently.

My wife and I honeymooned in Jamaica several years ago. We stayed at a small, traditional all inclusive resort in Ocho Rios, and except for an escorted outing to a local market and a snorkeling trip to Duns River Falls, we never left the grounds of the resort. I took an Omega and a Rolex, and I had no trouble at all. The resort also took care of our transportation to and from the airport in Montego Bay.

If I were going to a different kind of destination, with a little less supervision, I'd probably do what you're doing. I've also been to places in the Caribbean where I'd hesitate to wear any kind of watch at all.

Much as though I love wearing nice watches, I think I could do without the anxst of trying to work out when and when not to wear one. It's a shame really, isn't it? But incidences seem to be on the rise and I think we need to consider these things carefully.

I’ve had no trouble at all in the Caribbean.
In fact, they would probably be more at risk in an empty house back home.
