Lets say you were going on vacation and but I don't mean like a weekend getaway. A true vacation somewhere distant/abroad and you could only bring one watch, what would it be? Would you want date function? Water resistant? Leather band or stainless steel? Please share your thoughts!
any military or diver stuff.... originally built to take a pounding they naturally look better once smacked around a bit..... sort of like dirt bikes!
its not actually in the picture...my Suzuki..... I ruined the motor chasing the wench on the Husky! I wanted to tell her she forgot her helmet.
How safe is the place you're going? How relatively wealthy? When I went to Africa it was a £10 Casio. Something that I wouldn't care if it got stolen, something that someone probably would likely not want to steal. And also something that doesn't rub my relative wealth in when I'm somewhere in which people live in shacks. When I went to Menorca and Switzerland on the other hand, it was the SMPc.
I never ride without my helmet.... Like these young men.......you always need to protect the brains of the outfit!
On my last vacation I took the smp c and the AT, the AT ended up being it. I think I would have preferred my rolex Pepsi gmt but I was affraid of water and humidity against a 47 year old watch. I may get a newer gmt for travel that I can trust on the seals etc. Or the Explorer 1. I dont need date function really, but if it's there great!
My wife and I travelled in Asia for a year. I took a Marathon MSAR and a G-Shock. Next sabbatical I'll take a Seiko (6309 or MM300) and the G.
'50's Omega Constellation on strap. The automatic feature comes in handy. It's water resistant enough to suit my purposes. Don't want to see date features on my watch's dial.
We live in Northern California USA, and we have a six year old daughter. Most of our vacations are in the western United States like Disneyland in Southern California, baseball spring training in Arizona, family vacation home in Oregon, Denver Colorado... Close stuff (relative to the world).. For those I wear my grail, obtained last October: Patek Philippe Nautilus chronograph 5980/1A. Prior to landing the grail last year, I wore a vintage Omega Speedmaster (105.012-66 CB for those who speak Omegalese) on our trip to Italy (Venice/Florence/Vienna/Rome/Scalea). But it was the first time I decided to wear a significant vintage watch on holiday. I knew we wouldn't be swimming so I saw no reason not to enjoy it!
